Chapter 1

1 year later...

Rosalie

*Flashback*

"Rosalie, my best friend, my love and my reason for living. With this ring, I promise to love you, respect you, cherish you and most of all protect and support you in your hardships. The day you walked into my life, I was captured instantly by your beauty, humbleness and you gratitude for life and those around you and I knew instantly that you would be mine, and here we are. Every day, I find my self falling further in love with you and you continue to prove my purpose in life, to claim every inch of your heart and make it mine, until you are as smitten as I am. You are my dream come true, an inspiration and one day I hope to make you the mother of my children. Today, with this ring, I promise to continue loving you until I take my last breath"

My breath hitched in my throat as I listened intently to his vows; my mind and body becoming entranced as passion flowed throughout me. It was in this moment that I knew this man would be my only love, and without him, I was nothing. Before him, the world was painted black and white, but now a spectrum of colour  awaited me.

And I knew, as long as he was by my side, the world was braced with endless possibilities.

*End of Flashback*

A swarm of burgundy brown eyes pierced my sole lovingly as I cradled Esme in my arms. Born a month prematurely, she was now two months old, however she remained delicate and frail within my arms, enhancing my need to love and protect her from the harshness of the world around us.

Sadly she's the spitting image of her father.

Being so young, I was mesmerised at her defined face; being braced with plump lips, full lashes, and a head of brunette locks was something I am proud of, but it's a stab to the  heart to see the child of my love every second of the day, knowing she was all I had and would ever have left.

A year ago today, I had fled from him, leaving my heart behind. With the money I had left, I found myself in a small town north of Florida, and soon found myself a job as the secretary of the head Ryan Enterprises; an industrial manufacturer. I remember putting the remaining parts of my will into earning enough to rent the cottage I reside in today.

Currently, I have 4 months of paid leave left but soon I will have to return to work permanently, and the thought of leaving Esme for even a minute brings tears to my eyes. You see, with her alarming birth and being the only light in darkness that follows my path, she has become my everything and my sole reason for living, and through her I am able to experience love, all over again.

2 hours later..

Having dressed my little girl within the hour, we had arrived at Ryan Enterprises to return some paperwork that was immediately required.

Walking along the vast, narrow corridors, I was once again reminded as to why I wish to never work another day in this place again. With bustles of people making their way past, gossiping, moaning and giving the occasional glance and 'aw' at myself and Esme, I became overwhelmed in all that had to be done in the next four months. Firstly, I would have to hire a childminder, and then would have to go on in arranging my schedule around Esme.

After a few brief conversations with Mr Kendrick himself, I soon prepared myself to leave. However, Esme soon stalled this as she began to doze in my arms and her most prized possession, her pacifier, fell from her mouth and straight onto the mahogany floors.

Am I expected to pick that up?

Being the good person I am, I dropped my bags in hope to retrieve it, but was beat to it as a large, familiar hand grasped it and placed it in my own, sending sparks throughout my body. However, as I stood to meet the strangers gaze, I was left with the view of a retreating figure with a brown tangle of hair similar to that of the child I held in my arms.

It was then I recalled the wedding band in which I failed to notice, the only thing was, it was an exact replica of the one chained around my neck.

No, it couldn't be him, it can't be.
