Later that night, as Mary Beth lay in bed almost asleep, she heard a slight knock on her window. At first she thought she was hearing things, but it happened again. She got up and peeked through the curtains. Preston stood outside her window with a smirk on his face. Mary Beth raised her window.

“What are you doing here?” she whispered furiously. “My parents could catch you and we’d both be in deep shit!”

“Your parents’ room is on the other side of the house. They won’t hear anything. Step back.”

Preston climbed through her window. He stalked Mary Beth across the room. Her retreat was cut off when she reached her bed. She fell back and Preston quickly climbed on top of her. He inserted his leg in between hers and started rubbing his thigh against her core. Preston leaned forward to kiss Mary Beth but she turned her head to the side. Not to be deterred, Preston nibbled along her jaw line and suckled on a spot underneath her right ear that caused her toes to curl. She tried to ignore her body’s reaction to Preston, but she was soon humping herself against his hip. Mary Beth turned her face to Preston’s and their tongues battled for dominance.

Much later, they lay side by side trying to catch their breath.

“Seriously, that is the last time,” said Mary Beth.

“Whatever you say.” Preston chuckled. “What time do your parents tend to get up?”

“Around 6, why?”

“I want to be gone before they get up.”

“Your not staying the night!”

“Yes, I am. I want to hold you tonight. I will be long gone before your parents wake up. See, I’m setting my alarm now,” Preston states as leans over and grabs his cell phone out of his pants pocket. After he set his alarm, he set the phone on her night stand and they settle with her back to his front. They soon fall asleep.

Mary Beth gradually awakens to Preston gently suckling on her breasts and his fingers caressing her mound. She moans deep in her throat and arches her back. Preston, realizing she was awake, grabs the condom he had ready and swiftly covers himself. He slowly makes love to Mary Beth as the sky begins to lighten outside her window. When it was over, Preston lay on his back with Mary Beth cuddled up to his side. She was idly tracing his sweat covered abs. She glances over at the clock and she quickly sits up.

“Get up! Get up! Get up!” she stage whispers. “My parents will be up any minute! You have to get out of here.”

Preston quickly got up and threw his clothes on. He gave Mary Beth a quick kiss on the lips and started to climb out of the window. He threw over his shoulder, “See ya at school,” and then he was gone.

Preston snuck into Mary Beth’s bedroom every chance he got. Mary Beth even managed to spend some nights at Preston’s place by lying to her parents about where she was going to be.

Four weeks after the first night they slept together, Preston drove a couple of towns over to buy a pregnancy test at a Wal-Mart. There was no way in Hell that he was going to buy one from the local pharmacist. The word would get back to his dad before he could even leave the store. Mary Beth peed on the stick. They waited the three minutes they were supposed to, but even then neither one made a move to get up and check the results. Eventually, Preston got the courage to check. A feeling of relief ran through his body. The test had only one line. The directions had said that meant NOT PREGNANT! Preston turned to Mary Beth with a grin on his face.

“I’m not pregnant?”

“You’re not pregnant!”

Preston picked Mary Beth up in a big hug and proceeded to twirl her around. He set her down and the embrace went from celebratory to passionate very quickly. They celebrated their relief in a very primal fashion.

Christmas break came and went.

The football team made it through the playoffs, and they rocked the state championship.

The group could tell that both Mary Beth and Preston were secretly seeing someone, but no one suspected that it was each other. Mary Beth had a glow about her that she had never had before. Mason tried his best to hide his jealousy. He was miserable without Mary Beth, but she seemed to do just fine without him. Mason had gone on a few dates but he quickly lost his interest in each one. He wanted Mary Beth back but with her possibly having a new boyfriend, he didn’t know where he stood with her. In Preston’s case, he constantly sported a cheeky grin and he was in a perpetual good mood. When either one was questioned about who they were seeing, they both denied having someone in their lives.

Molly and Cody, especially, tried to get Mary Beth to talk. She eventually broke down and let them know she was seeing someone, but they weren’t ready to make it public. Mary Beth swore them to secrecy, and promised that they would find out on prom night.

On an unseasonably hot day in March, Mary Beth started to feel dizzy standing on the pitcher’s mound. Practice had barely started, and she already felt dehydrated. She shook it off and threw the pitch. As practice wore on, it just got worse. She had the ball in her glove as she tried to focus on the catcher. Her vision started to blur so she rapidly blinked her eyes. The dizziness got worse, and Mary Beth started to sway. She noticed some figures running her way as the ball fell from her glove. The last thing she remembered before she hit the ground was someone shouting her name.
