A Poem of Passion

Our Elder stood in confidence

with passion of a lifelong fight

As a bright burning light for us to follow

his words rang out until he showed

his emotional side and then he cried.

So what made our first Brother

weep? It was a passing of a dear friend

though long ago we know how you

feel and the fact that at this meeting

of Melina Mercouri you promised

to a lifelong commitment to "Bring Athena's Gifts back Home."

Athena's Gifts the Parthenon Scultures

are now to the Greeks a symbol of their Heritage

the same that is shared by many other nations

for it is a tap root of the West and from imperial conquests

of rulers down through time the Ancient Greek thought spread.

Yes the Parthenon is an Icon of Global Citizenship

with  the marble statues, together make Athena's Gifts

Many believe, these old stones were illegally

removed from her temple, hacked and shipped away

from their home land, to now sit within the walls

of the British Museum out of context without the truth known

they don't have the same message as they once did.

Here they just stand as a symbol of Imperial Power

and all the wrong things that the British did whereever they

planted that Union Jack and claimed the land as their own

without the rights being acknowledge to the people of that land.

Then  we see you rally , as the tears break you begin to once again

speak out. Yes  Emanuel with that strong voice

of "Return Them Bring Them Back Home", will be

on your lips until they are or if you pass away from our sight

we will then pick up the burden you have carried

all these years, "Melina's request" ---

"Fight for what is right until your dying Breath"

I hope my friend within your life you will see the day

That these" Athena's Gifts"will be reunified with their brothers and sisters

in their rightful place of the Acropolis Museum.
