Chapter 27 : Dual Pulse

Depuis le début

Shiro felt his beating heart, a powerful pump that she knew was a sign of strong will. Where she placed her palm, a glowing yellow light began to appear, blinking at the beat of his heart. Shiro looked down to see her chest glow the same color as well, blinking along with her pulse. Nathan did not seem to notice or feel anything. Shiro focused as she whispered the magic words.

"兩雙脈搏"

('Shuāng Màibó')

Shiro felt light on her feet as she said the words, feeling fake Nathan's soul and thoughts connect with hers; she saw glowing blue strands connect from Nathan's back to her chest, connected to each other's hearts.

When Nathan turned the corner to see a young girl, Shiro senses had kicked in and nagged her with an indescribably uncomfortable feeling. She hesitated to move closer and chose to watch from the kitchen. Nathan called out to the girl called Anna, Shiro felt a strong, malicious presence spread around the room as she bit her lip and felt her heart sink inside her chest.

Nathan approached closer to Anna, squatting down. He repeated her name and the feeling of that malicious presence began to bound together at one specific spot, Anna. Shiro took notice of the silence, and before she could react, a sudden outburst of malevolent energy came towards Shiro. This energy was visible to Shiro as a dark shade of Indigo; as if a powerful wind had hit Shiro, she flew back and hit the wall behind her before falling face first on the ground.

She coughed as air escaped from her lungs from the force. The impact of the wind cracked and broke the wooden wall behind her. She started getting back up as the broken wooden wall was reconstructed and repaired as if nothing affected it.

She could see Anna standing straight with a knife in her hand, giving a malicious smile, she looked at Nathan as he inched back slowly.

Shiro looked closer to see a shadowy creature slowly rise from behind Anna, it's formed as tall as the ceiling and it's features were unseen at the moment. All Shiro get from looking at the silhouette of the creature was that it had a wide, giggling smile and it's hollow eyes leaked with blood red smoke.

Nathan stood up from the floor and back away slowly to the kitchen, trying to reason with her, "Anna? What's the matter with you? You seriously going to kill me just for an eye?"

Anna licked her blade which had blood on it, giggling, "Of course, why not? I was bounded by the expectations of society, pressured and judged but now I've found the key to my release! Slaughter! All my problems can be solved through killing and no one would ever know it was me."

Nathan felt his heart thumping, not finding a proper response. The beast followed behind Anna, but still seen as a silhouette and watching from above.

Shiro looked up at the beast, "So you're the Possession Killer? One of many mass murdering Colorless out there?" Shiro smiled as she bent her knees and posed herself ready for a fight. "I've always wanted to fight you."

Many Colorless possess humans for murder or other tragedies but this one particular is the type that has lived for decades and no one was able to track its whereabouts, as far as Shiro knew, it has been moving from country to country often and no one had been able to kill it due to its speed and aggression. Shiro wonders if she can take the beast on alone but her excitement for a challenge made her avoid such thoughts.

She could see that Nathan was nervous and decide to comfort him, "you ready, Nathan? I'm not sure if you have been in a fight before but this one will be a fight to the death; however, where's the fun in life when you can't experience the thrill, am I right...? I promise...you'll get out of this alive."

He stopped feeling tensed and breathed in and out slowly, holding his hands up and bracing himself, "What you're doing is a monstrous act! Please, don't become one! Be human!"

Anna slowly approached as she continued, smiling and laughing maniacally, "my life is already fucked up, there's no going back. You know what they say; in for a penny, in for a pound."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The reasoning behind the name is because the Human and the CoDa are connected to each other to the point where their heartbeats are exactly the same. Their pulse is divided and shared among each other in order to become a balanced Duo. Therefore, Dual Pulse."
I paused for a moment then concluded, "So it's like-"
"It's like Shaman King where the characters can bond with warrior spirits that can manifest behind them during battles." Zack Interrupted.
"Or it's like double showdown where the charac-wait...what?" I looked at Zack suspiciously.
"Uh, it's nothing. It's just an old comic I read..."
"I've never heard of such comic before."
"I don't blame you, it's really...really old."
