Phil shook himself out of oblivion, his screams muffled by his pillow. He was practically drenched in his own sweat and tears. The more he tried to calm himself down, the more vividly he remembered his dream that had been repeating itself for three nights now. There was no possible way to get back to sleep after having experienced that, so he got up to get a drink.
He walked in complete silence.
The last thing he wanted was to wake his poor mom up just for the games his mind was playing on him.
While grabbing a glass of water should have been an easy task, for Phil Lester it was a different story. He dropped almost everything he touched; therefor he never liked touching or holding anything in any circumstance that wasn't completely necessary. Fortunately he managed to grip the glass, though he had to use two hands in a pathetically desperate manner in order to trek back to his room successfully.
Finally, Phil had had drank his water, and was back to sleep in almost no time at all.

Phil woke up to the sound of an alarm screaming in his ear. He had it set to play the his favorite Muse song when it went off, but for some reason it had decided today was a good day to completely run off its railing and play the stereotypical obnoxious beeping that was built into it.
Phil fell out of bed dramatically and threw his glasses on, stumbling blindly into the washroom. It was holiday break, but Phil liked to get up early in the morning anyways so that he didn't miss anything.
His mum was already up, laying across the sofa with a book in one hand and coffee in the other.
"Good morning, Phil! Are you hungry?" Mrs.Lester smiled warmly up at him.
"Yeah, i'll make myself some oatmeal. Thanks!" Phil replied in a rather peppy manor. He loved mornings, the colors and scents made his heart happy.

After Phil ate breakfast, he ran back upstairs so that he could play video games until his grandparents arrived. He fell back into his chair as his computer turned on. The bright light lit up his room, and animations immediately danced across the screen. The familiar home screen melody flooded his eardrums, and he smiled at the warmth that it provided him.
Video games tended to be an escape of sorts for Phil. He picked up his headset and slid it on with ease. Once he pressed resume, he began to hear the familiar urgent shouting coming from the other players. This usually wasn't a problem for him, but today it was starting to get to him. He must have simply been in a different mindset than usual, the people seemed a lot more urgent today. The exigency was taking a toll on his gameplay. He couldn't even focus on the things the people were saying, only getting hints of "end" and "death". This kind of talk was pretty normal on here as it was a pretty violent game. Nothing unusual, right? He hid his character in a corner, and disconnected from the server altogether.
Phil set down his headset. He turned to his TV to look for a different game to play.
He picked out another game not soon after, plummeting his emotions into a completely different atmosphere. Chills ran through his back as he let himself become immersed in the game of his childhood. Nostalgia was his prominent emotion the entire time he played the game- but eventually it began to ware him down.
Maybe video games just weren't the right thing for Phil right now.
He shut off the TV. His chair was easily maneuvered backwards, letting Phil out of the small space he had created specifically for times when he played video games, which was often.
He stood up and began the trek downstairs to see what his family was up to. When he got to the top of the stairs, he stopped abruptly as voices other than his mother's crawled into his ears. Less than a second later he recognized the voices as those of his grandparents. Phil rolled his eyes, their presence was usually not a good thing for him. They "disagreed" with Phil's life choices- It's not that that should bother him, though, as he had all the support he could ask for from everyone besides them.
Turns out that relation to people can really make you care more than you should about their whereabouts in opinion.
Phil stumbled down the stairs, making eye contact with his mother once he reached the bottom step. Her eyes seemed to scream 'be nice' at Phil, though he couldn't think of a time when he hadn't been in the past. Phil pressed his lips together in response.
"Philip!" His grandmother exclaimed, wobbling up to him. She grabbed his hands, and it took all the control in his body not to flinch away from her frail, icy fingers. Phil went along with the conversation she began, letting her lead him to the table to sit him down and talk. The topics of conversation began at Phil's current hobbies, (which, surprisingly enough, were nothing that could possibly impress the lady) and dragged on until it spiraled into Phil's love life. The problem was that Phil's love life was almost nonexistent; he hadn't had feelings for a girl for over three years. He didn't know why. It's not that Phil didn't like girls, it's just that none of the ones in his life at the moment were what he was looking for.
Not that he had any idea what he was looking for.
He had to explain this to his grandmother, and she insisted once again that he would find someone soon enough and that he shouldn't worry. Phil didn't really care about relationships, though- he had much more important things going on in his life right now and didn't have time for a girl.
His grandmother scoffed at him when he told her this, revolving the conversation back to how she didn't think he could get anywhere with his life with what he was doing right now and how he needed to pull himself together. Phil hated these talks; he knew she just didn't understand but it still hurt him that she was so judgmental. He was doing other things besides play games, even though that was most of what he did with his time.
She gave up on the argument as Phil's mother began to set food in front of them.
They ate in silence, not quite awkward but definitely not comfortable. During the almost nonexistent amount of time that they did spend talking, his family had decided they would watch a movie when lunch was over.
"Also, Phil, I forgot to tell you Grandma and Grandpa will be staying in your room tonight. You can sleep on the couch." Phil's father spoke up. Phil swallowed, clenching his fists under the table.
"Oh, okay." Phil responded quietly. The discussion went back to the movie after that, which was really all there was for them to talk about. They decided on a movie, coincidentally one that Phil had watched fairly recently. His family stood up then, walking one at a time to the living room. The couch was quickly filled up. Phil was left sitting in an armchair, but he figured it was much better than being surrounded by people.
He tried his best to get comfortable, leaning back and putting his feet on the coffee table. Soon enough the movie was on.
It was going to be a long night.
