John pulled out a new CD he created last night, I had to download about five songs so that his "masterpiece" could be completed. As the mellow beginning tones of Proud Mary- Tina Turner (mine and John's mutual favourite song) rang through my car John started to get tense, he knew I was about to ask him some questions about his behaviour.
"So... you don't seem to like Luke much" I observed casually.
"He's okay, I suppose" he answered, not what I was waiting for.
"Well; were you being nasty to him on purpose or do you just treat everyone like that and I don't notice?"
"Fine!" he exclaimed. "I just, just don't like the way he looks at you." He confessed.
What? Luke's been looking at me? No, no, John must be wrong, I quickly changed the subject.
"Are you ready for Katherine's party tonight, I swear you take longer to get ready than me!"
"Yeah, I'm ready, I just need to have a shower and straighten my hair"
"And style it, and then you need to make yourself 'smell pukka'" I made the air quotation marks whilst trying to keep the rest of my hands on the wheel; he didn't much like it when I used my knowledge of him against him.
"Let's say I'm going to take over an hour then" he smiled, I groaned at this, an hour to John was three hours to me, I'm going to have to make sure as soon as he gets in the house he has a shower or we are never going to get there.
I reminded him at least five times before he got out of the car to have a shower as soon as he got in, each time he shrugged it off with a smile promising me he would be ready before I came in to pick him up.
"See you at seven tonight, yeah? Go and have I shower now!" I commanded.
"Sure sure" he replied laughing at me.
I rushed home to get myself in the shower so that I could dry my hair; it usually took over half an hour to get it completely dry, my blonde hair swept long to my waist, it was a pain to keep not looking greasy, but I could never bring myself to chop it off.
Katherine's 17th birthday. I had to put some effort in to looking good; she was my best female friend, where John dreaded me discussing boys and wanting to go shopping with me; Katherine loved it. Katherine always hated that I was never into make-up, so I decided it would be nice to use some of the make-up she had given me for my last birthday party as something special.
I glanced into the mirror, I really didn't need much make-up my skin is generally very clear and smooth. My eyebrows also needed no effort as they were blonde most hairs were too light to see.
But; as it's for Katherine I should do this as well as possible
Ugh! Foundation, mascara, blush, bronzer, lipstick, lip-gloss, eye-brow pencil? What am I really meant to wear without going over the top about it?
I gave in, did the foundation as good as I could without giving myself a "slag-line", small dusting of blush, eye-liner and for the final touch; red lipstick that Katherine bought especially for me, saying that it contrasted well with my pale skin.
I decided to wear a black dress, fitted in the middle, where I put a bright red belt to match my newly applied lipstick and red high heels that I saved for parties.
One more quick look in the mirror; I clean up quite well, I smiled at myself.
Right, now to go and pick up John I sighed internally, pray he's ready!
I pulled up outside his house, thinking of the brilliant childhood we had here playing in the emerald grass in the summer and the icy cold winters, making snowmen and having small snowball wars with each other. He suddenly popped his head out of his window waving me to come in.
