It has been hours, and we still have two more until we reach Forks, Washington. Lanna in the backseat has been mewling and scratching at the window the past fourty minutes. "Fine, there's plenty of forest cover here, but we're only out for a few minutes then we need to continue. We cannot let you be seen." I pulled over my '67 Camero SS and flipped the seat up letting her out. We walked towards the closest tree before she nudged my calf playfully. I sigh knowing what she wants. "Lanna, we can't risk it." I earned a sad mew from her and chuckled, "Fine, just a few minutes, then we go." I ducked behind a bush with her by my side to cover me. I pulled off my dress hide and tucked it in the bush. I instantly phased and shook my body stretching. I turned to Lanna, and noticed she was already darting off. 'lan wait!' 'come and catch me Jess!' I snarled in annoyance and ran after her. I found her staring at something, 'fireflies Jess!' She giggled and ran into the small clearing. Prancing around swatting and snapping at them like a kitten after a fly. I just sat there and watched, smiling internally. It's been a while since I've seen her care-free. Since the incident, she's been very reserved, which is not her personality. When her back was turned I pounced on her and we began to play wrestle. Despite how I may act towards others, and act how I'm expected, Lanna always brought the child in me out to play. We chased around the fireflies and played, unaware that we had company...
*Sam's pack p.o.v*
'Jared, did you see that?'
'yes Paul, I'm right next to you! What are they?'
'Jared, Paul, wait until I reach you. Do not approach them!'
'yes alpha sir..'
'watch it Paul!'
Sam ran west towards his pack. They were laying low, watching the newcomers. He crouched down next to them, watching the two strange creatures play. 'Sam...what are they?' 'They are too big to be normal animals..I..I'm not sure. Stay behind me, and keep quiet.' They slowly made their way out to the clearing. The white fox turned noticing them. They stood their ground with Sam in front, prepared for their confrontation.
*Jessie*
I stopped and pushed Lanna behind me. I stood tall waiting to see if these wolves would attack. I opened my mind to speak to them. "You are on Quileute territory. State your names and purpose." 'wow..he's menacing. Must be the alpha of the pack Grandmother warned me of.' I sat down, bending a paw while bowing my head. "My name is Jessie CleverHeart, granddaughter of Chief WhiteWillow of the Blackfoot tribe. This with me is my sister Lanna. She was exiled and I a runaway. We are a sister clan, and hold peace with your elders. We are new residents, and come to live peacefully, in hopes of finding answers. We intend no harm."
I lifted my head after speaking, their eyes wide. The two wolves behind the alpha dog snickered, and I tried to ignore them, just eyeing the alpha. "I am Sam Uley. This is my pack, Paul, and Jared. Are you two..shifters?" "Yes, just in a different context." I nodded and wrapped my tail around Lanna who curled next to me. 'I would like to follow you to your new house Jessie, and discuss this in detail. If you are to live here, we have a few things to go over.' He stated and turned to lead us. 'Thank you for your understanding. Our car is just through there.' I stood and nodded the way.
We made our way back, and they turned allowing me to shift and pull my hide back on. Lanna jumped in the back seat and before I got in one of them came running up to me. "Hey, I'm Paul. Sam figured you weren't familiar with the roads, so I'm riding along to guide. They'll be following there." I nodded and started the car. I passed him the sheet with my new address. "You live by the treaty line...um, go straight and first left in three miles." We drove in silence, Lanna sniffing the back of Pauls head. "Tell her to stop it. Why is she sniffing me? And why didn't she phase back?" He kept pushing her face away playfully. "I think we should discuss that with your alpha present." I took the left and pushed my hair back over my left eye. "I guess so. Now go straight for six miles then the second road on the right. It's uphill by a stream." I nodded and continued to look forward. "You know, you should move your hair, I don't want to crash just because your 'emo' hair-style." He laughed. I smashed on the breaks causing us to screech to a stop. "What did you say?" I snarled at him. "uhh..erm....'emo'....hair...style?" "You think you're funny, don't you? First of all, no girl will appreciate your comments on their hair. Second of all," I lifted my hair away from my eye. His mouth dropped and his face went red. "I...um....I didn't, didn't know! I'm...shit, I'm so sorry!" I covered back my eye and shifted in gear. There was silence until the turn off. There it was, a giant two story house. It was my grandmothers, left to me after she met grandfather. I stopped the car and waited until we saw Sam and Jared. "Paul. Don't say anything about what I showed you." I didn't wait for a reply and got out with Lanna behind me. I patted her head as we gazed at the house. "Well girl, there will be plenty of room for you now." It had plenty of large windows. The top floor had a balcony, likely the master bedroom. The guys walked over to us, "would you like to come in? It's furnished, and I would prefer our conversation in private?" Sam nodded and we walked inside.
The was a huge living room. A fireplace to the back by the doors. To the left was a dining room, with an open bar kitchen. Grandmother did love to cook. We all took a seat with Lanna at my feet. "So, what type of.. shifters are you?" For his human form he is still intimidating. Alpha written clear on his face. His voice deep, confident, but not rude in the least. "When we are of age, we take our spirit walk. After facing our trials, we are given a spirit animal and a new 'last name' related to who and what we are. I received mine when I was twelve, as I entered womanhood." The boys held back their laughter. Sam gave them a menacing look. "Lanna here...well.." I looked down at her and she licked my hand and rubbed on it assuring me. I let out a sigh. "She didn't complete her trial. She is stuck in her shifter form until she can complete her journey. She was out longer than normal..and she arrived home like this. In this state you are considered a disgrace, and are exiled until you can fully change. I..came along with her. To help her. I am her guardian, and will not leave her to roam around with such dangers.." Sam nodded, listening intently. I continued, "We wish to seek council with your elders, in hopes they can offer advice on how to help her." Their expressions made me hold back a smile. Eyes almost out of their skulls. "So, you're a fox...and she's a panther?" Jared asked. I nodded my head and watched as they exchanged glares. "I will contact our elders and see what they think. Until then, don't travel far, and do NOT cross the river. It is our treaty line." "May I ask with whom?" Sam gave me a hesitant look, and the other two snarled. "They...you mean there are...?" He nodded befire speaking. "Vampires. They keep to their land, they do not harm any humans, and they are allowed to stay. They do not feed off humans. They only drink animal blood. Just, for your two's safety stay here." "It is in our culture to introduce ourselves to any clan, culture, coven, pack, or other so we are aware of each-other's presence. To avoid future confusion or threat." Sam gave me a skeptical look, and stood. I stood as well, my face straight as his. Then...he cracked a smile! "So, by chief that means you are next in line? As an alpha of sorts?" I nodded. "That is correct, I am the next in line, due to my parent's death. However, a chieftain is different than an alpha. Our alpha..." I tried to hold back a tear, "our 'pack' has an alpha, they are our warriors as you would say." "Well, I will ask our elders about your meeting with the Cullens. Until then, please stay here. I will be by, in a few days at the least. Welcome to Forks." He went to shake my hand and I took his elbow in mine placing my elbow in his opened hand. Forearms touching. "this is how we respect an alpha." I gave a half smile as he grasped my elbow. "We will see eachother soon." We exchanged numbers, and I walked them out. "mreow.." Lanna rolled her eyes as they left, and I just chuckled. "Well, it's better than it could have been." She flicked her tail and we laid on the story rug by the fireplace. I rested my head on her stomach as we slept.
