Loving Can Hurt

1. If only she knew

  "Dear Lord that was tiring!", Natsu Dragneel exclaimed as he walked out of the school campus with his bestfriend, Lucy Heartfillia.

"Natsu, it wasn't even tiring. We didn't even have P.E today", Lucy sighed as her idiot bestfriend continued complaining. School had just ended for both of them and they were both going back home. They always went home together and it wasn't weird because they lived next to each other.

"I can't wait till we get back home. I'm not even touching my homework today, Mr Clives can go f-"

"Natsu...", Lucy glared at him, which was like a bunny glaring at a fox. He was half a head taller than her so it wasn't at all intimidating. Natsu however apologized as he remembered Lucy wasn't a huge fan of swearing casually. She believed that people should only swear when they absolutely need to. Thank Goodness for her, her morals didn't change when she befriended Natsu.

Breaking the ice, Lucy started another conversation, "Oh did you hear what Juvia did to Gray today?"

Natsu rubbed his chin, trying to remember all the things Juvia did to attempt winning Gray. "Let's see, she serenaded him, which was horrible. She gave him a can of ice coke, weird. She once dressed up like a maid during Halloween, I think only 9 boys had a boner. And I think that's it?"

"Don't forget the April incident."

"Right, the April incident." The two replayed the memory of Juvia pouring ice water on Gray after she heard he loved the cold. She kept insisting they were perfect together but to no avail, Gray still rejected her.

"So what did Juvia do today?"

"Well she got suspended for wearing nothing but a short skirt, light blue tanktop and heels. Also I think this time 12 boys got boners." Lucy smirked at the mental picture in her head of all the boys drooling over her while Gray barely bothered to look. "I think she was trying to get his attention."

"That's stupid," the salmon hair boy shook his head, "just shout when you want someone's attention. That's what I always do anyways."

Lucy facepalmed but chuckled a little bit, reminding herself why so many teachers called Natsu the troublemaker.

Fifteen minutes later, they both reached Natsu's house. It wasn't that much of a house, two storeys, a small kitchen, two bedrooms, a toilet and a medium sized living room. That was basically it. Lucy's was similar but with more rooms and one more toilet. Her parents were never home so she usually had the place to herself. She liked it like that though, just herself and occasionally Natsu.

"So I'm gonna go change and take a shower now, see you in half an hour?"

"Natsu, girls take more time to shower. Gimme 45 minutes, promise I'll be on time."

Natsu nodded and gave her a grin before she ran off into her own house. He walked into his own house and yelled, "DAD, I'M HOME."

No response.

Typical, Natsu's dad, Igneel wasn't always home so it wasn't out of the ordinary that he wasn't home now. He walked up the stairs to his bedroom to get a shirt, underwear and sweatpants before heading to the bathroom. He took a nice hot shower before he went downstairs, booted up his PS3 and waited for Lucy to arrive. While he waited, he prepared Lucy's favorite snacks. A plate of Strawberry Oreos and a glass of milk. He normally ate chips but he didn't want to get his controller oily, nor did he want to waste tissue. He put the plate and glass on the coffee table and waited for his blonde bestfriend to come.

Ten minutes later, Lucy sat next to him on the couch. It was a bit weird as he didn't hear his door open but Lucy wasn't exactly one to be normal when they were alone. He passed her the Player 2 controller and inserted the Portal 2 disk in. He didn't like puzzle games but Lucy did so that was fine by him. He suddenly heard Lucy protest, "Don't I get to be Player 1?"

"You're the guest. You're Player 2."

"Hmph," Lucy pouted as she crossed her arms. Natsu couldn't help but poke her cheek and chuckle, "You're cute when you pout." Lucy laughed it off and denied the fact that she could ever be cute, but Natsu knew different.

After an hour and a half of testing his brain, Natsu and Lucy gave up on the level and decided to switch to Netflix. They both lied on the couch while Natsu wrapped his arms around Lucy as she smiled and snuggled closer to him. As they spooned, they watched their favorite movie, Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back. Natsu couldn't help but be happy and sad that he was in this position again.

About three months ago, Natsu had discovered that he had certain feelings for Lucy that were more than just bestfriendship. He tried to push these feelings away as he knew it couldn't end well for him. Love never ended well for him, his first girlfriend dumped him, his second cheated on him, his third lost the spark and the fourth switched schools without telling him. But after failing to push these feelings, all he could do was accept his fate and hope for the best. But deep down in his heart, he knew that it would end in pain, misery and a whole gallon of tears. Because in the end, Ed Sheeran was wrong about him. Loving could never mend his soul.

Okay so I haven't been updating in a long time. I apologize as I've had a writer's block and I've had a lot of work to do. Good news is, I'm planning Chapter 9 of Denial. Bad news is, it might not come out so soon. But I hope you like this story, I have huge faith in it and I'll see you all next chapter. Peace.
