Tales of Magic

Before we knew the worlds we know
in the drifts of stars like snow
another place was buried deep
with mountains high and carved out keeps

These ancient haunts their stories made
But dim slowly now as the fires fade
and as they whisper across far off skies
we imagine them in our dreaming eyes

Realms of races passed into myth
Once proud in their kingdoms with
princes and paupers and monsters of legend
and mystical lands to claim or defend

Hear the echo of sword on shield
and armies who would never yield
Listen for the bell that warns of dragons bold
who gather treasure in their holds

On a clear night with a full moon in sight
we walk unaware of other-worldly plights
Yet our hearts stir with every retelling
of fantastic stories so compelling

In the mazes of the inner mind
I touch these places I try to find
and words like diamonds my heart brings
in the tales of magic that it sings
