Sucky art is by me.
Don't listen to the song for the first section, it completely ruins the atmosphere. Listen to for the rest of the chapter though.

Chapter 7

Shane had expected the test to be something scary and techy with simulators and trick question and stuff, but when Evelin had dropped him back in the office Destri introduced herself. "Not that you don't already know who I am," she smiled. He half expected her to have pointy fangs for teeth or something, but besides being impossibly white they were impressively normal. She led him to her computer, sat him down on an old yellow rolling stool, which seemed somehow out of place  compared to everything else, and told him to complete all the questions correctly. It was like an IQ quiz but harder and longer. Destri paced back and forth behind him, which was distracting, but he had lots of  practice ignoring annoying sounds. He was on about the 50th one, which he was having some difficulty on, when the pacing stopped. He realized frantically that she was standing directly behind him. Had he done something wrong? Was there a time limit? Was the whole thing some sort of trick to test something else? His hands froze over the key board. His eyes ran over the question reading it over and over again, but no longer comprehending.
"Nervous?" She whispered, her mouth suddenly right beside his ear. He tried to calm his breathing and just answer the question.
"The answer is 'D'."
He let himself glance at her briefly trying to read her face, then he looked back at the question. Was the answer D? But then again maybe it didn't matter which answer was actually right, maybe it just mattered wether he obeyed her or not. And she seemed like the sort of person who would want to be obeyed. Hesitantly he moved the cursor to the letter D and let it hover there.
Click.
"Good decision." She whispered to him and went back to pacing.

That evening when Shane was finally released to return to the waiting room he opened the door and walked in only to find Aiern fast asleep in the corner. He snickered thinking of all the wonderful pranks he could pull on him if he had the materials to do it with. As it was he settled for poking him in the face until he woke up, except he found that this did nothing to wake him. He grinned and then licked his finger and stuck it in Aiern's ear. Aiern groaned and then grogily sprang up while trying to wipe his ear off with his coat.
"You!" Aiern growled, "Are a disgusting little child! Ugh!"
"Well now I at least know how to wake you up out of a coma." Shane smirked.
Aiern groaned again and switched from rubbing his ear to rubbed his eyes. He snapped his fingers at his glider which turned on and glided over to him. Still half asleep he grabbed its controller off of the small table and then stepped onto the glider.
"Ya. So you've done that a million times." Shane smirked as he carefully tried to balance himself as he got on behind.
"Ya and you've obviously never tried to balance on so much as a sea-saw."
"Hey, have you ever even tried to do that? It takes some serious talent man, serious talent."
"As a matter of fact I have." Aiern took off quickly, Shanes undoubtedly snarky reply silenced by a yelp of terror. Shane desperately clung onto Aiern as soon as they got back into the "hive".
Aiern groaned, "Shane, Let go of me."
"No. I'll fall off."
"I'll throw you off."
"Gee thanks, I feel so apreciated."
"You should." Aiern landed them on a ledge very high up and near the ceiling which gave it the feeling of being in a back corner.
"This is my quarters." Aiern hopped off of the glider, "If you've passed the exam then you'll be staying with me for at least a year. I'll be your main teacher here, although if it seems your more suited for an area of work I'm not familiar with then you may be working with some other people in addition to me."
"Great so basically I'm stuck with you for how long?"
"A year at the very least."
Shane groaned, "I have to stay with you for more that a YEAR!?"
"Says the one who licked my ear!"
"I didn't actually LICK your ear... I licked my finger then stuck that in your ear."
"Oh well that makes it SO much better."
"Heeeey! look who's getting a hang on sarcasm!"
"Oh would you just shut up for two seconds!" Aiern huffed and turned to the door, which like Destri's was circular and blended in well with the rest of the wall. He typed a password of some sort into a number pad beside it.
"Hey do I get to know the password then?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because I don't trust you."
"Says the one who dangled me a thousand feet in the air and told me that he had just then decided to not drop me."
"It wasn't a thousand feet, more like a couple hundred."
"Ya cause I'm not equally dead either way, a thousand feet up at least I'd have a good view and some fun on the way down. I could have done back flips!"
"Shut up."
The doorway rolled open and they both stepped in. There was a bed in the corner covered in clothing, paper, and food; there was a huge desk, whose surface could hardly be seen under the clutter. The desk took up an entire wall which itself seemed to be one huge screen. There was a closet which looked as if it could not possibly ever be closed again due to everything spilling out of it.
Aiern stepped around it all following a small, almost invisible trail of floor to his computer chair.
"Oh. Ya, sorry about the mess." He cast a critical eye at it all, "I'll clean it up at some point... well, probably not if I'm going to be honest."
"Oook... I might be homeless but I at least keep my stuff tidy. This is going to annoy me."
"Good. You can clean it up then." Aierns mouth twitched up at one end, but it didn't quite qualify as a smile.
"Ya, No, I'm going to bother you about it until you do something about it."
"Good luck with that."
