One day long ago there was a major battle in the fight between F.A.I.T.H. and D.E.A.T.H. Two organizations in a civil war more costly than any other. Many families were split apart and separated by this war. Many households would actually end up splitting in half because the parents would see the help they could give the good side, and the children would see how much they could gain from the evil side. The only question that those who joined the evil side didn't ask was the most important. What do they lose?
As the families separated, they often met on the battlefield. Those battles would end in agony and pain. One family however, would not split the usual way. This was the Thompsons. The Thompsons had 3 children that argued constantly, but when the war broke out, the siblings had to choose sides. The Thompson children were, James, Alice, and Mark. Of all their fights, this would definitely be the worst. While James and Mark both went to war, each went to opposing sides. Alice was too young to get into the conflict yet, which she was very upset about.
As James and Mark made their way down into the city, they argued about which sides to take. James argued that while D.E.A.T.H. seemed, convenient for the first month, its glory wouldn't last and F.A.I.T.H. was much better in the long run. Sadly, Mark just wouldn't have it. He was dead set on joining the ranks of D.E.A.T.H. When they finally made it to town, they said their goodbyes, and went on their way.
When James made it to the enlistment office for F.A.I.T.H. they accepted him gladly and told him that he should simply sit in their waiting room and wait to be called on. However, when Mark showed up at the enlistment center for D.E.A.T.H. they brought him directly to a transport facility and brought him to the frontlines of Detania with the rest of the soldiers.
Within an hour of waiting, James had been taken to the frontlines of Detania as well, but neither knew what had happened to the other. They were each quickly equipped with special armor and weapons. Mark, with the Helmet of Darkness, the Breastplate of Lies, the Boots of Hatred, the Sword of Rage, the Belt of slander, and the Shield of Fear. James, with the Helmet of Salvation, the Breastplate of Righteousness, the Boots of Readiness, The Sword of the Spirit, the Belt of Truth, and the Shield of Faith. Each thought they could easily overpower any of the other sides men.
As each of the brothers joined the ranks of their comrades, they prepared for a fight that they would not soon forget. When the ranks met each other on the field of battle, it was fierce and raging with fires ablaze and metal clashing and clanging with each swing of a sword. As James advanced through the ranks of his platoon, they started to break off and engage the enemy. James saw a man in the bright white Armor that he wore was about to be struck down and with the sight of his comrade about to fall to an enemy, he ran to help him.
Mark was ready for this battle, and as he ran with his comrades and yelled with them of their fury, they broke up and started the fight. He saw one of the "Lighters" as they called them running toward him and they both swung their weapons lightly as if simply to test the others strategy. The swords met with a loud clang and both held their swords steady and strong. As Mark brought his sword off the Lighters, He swung low and got a clean swing through his opponents leg and slightly hit his waist. This foolish Lighter would never be able to make that mistake again. He brought his sword high above his head and swung.
James quickly stepped before his comrade, swung his sword, and deflected the enemies hit, throwing their sword out of their reach. As his friend lay dying on the ground, this Fear Raiser, or "Raiser" as they generally called them, looked down and saw the sword of his fallen opponent. James saw him eye the sword of the Spirit on the ground and quickly kicked it away, leaving only him and the Raiser.
This Lighter was smart, quick, and quite strong. But one thing he lacked. Anger, anger can conquer even the most dire situations. He thought quickly and made a dash for his sword. The Lighter chased him and was right on Marks heels. Mark made a dive for his sword and quickly flicked it up in the air, snatched it, and took a mighty swing at this loathsome Lighter.
As the sword drew very close to him, James leaped in the air and swung his sword down with all his might. To his surprise, instead of armor and flesh, James had hit a sword. He couldn't help but mutter a low "Nice block" as he drew his sword back and prepared his stance to duel.
Alice had recognized James on the way down and followed him, staying hidden in the trees, ready with her bow and arrows, and prepared to strike any soldier of D.E.A.T.H. down. As she watched the fight between James and the Raiser, she felt confident that James would easily be the victor of this fight. But suddenly, The Raiser knocked James sword out of his hands and knocked James to the floor defenseless. Alice would make that Raiser pay if it was the last thing she did. She nocked an arrow, aimed steadily, and released the arrow.
James was fighting hard and thought he was winning, but the Raisers anger was so much ablaze that he would not fail to block any of James' swings, and eventually got him on the floor without his sword, and without his shield. James said the prayer that was to be his last.
Mark was struggling to regain control of this fight, but he remembered, anger can conquer any odds. He soon was slicing his sword through the air delivering terrific swings and parrying any swing the Lighter took at him, and with one very fast and strong swing, he knocked the sword out of the Lighters hands, and knocked him onto the floor, defenseless just like the first. "Nobody can stop me this time!" Mark yelled as he raised his sword ready to strike.
Alice's arrow pierced directly through Marks armor, with a shot straight through his heart, and she had successfully saved James. When James heard Marks voice, he was terrified of hurting his brother, but now that he had fallen, James went to Marks body, prayed a prayer over him, and wept.
In the end of it all, there is Fear and there is Faith. There is Death and there is Life. There is Evil and there is Good. There is Black and there is White. The question is, which side will you choose?
