The Oikawa's lingered a little longer by the brunette captain's side before walking up to [Name]'s parents and the teenagers who stood by the edge of the sick bed. Oikawa's parents tried to smile at Iwaizumi and [Name], although it was obviously forced. "We should head back now," Oikawa's father suggested, rubbing his wife's arm. "It's getting pretty late. And I'm sure we are all tired."

Adrian and Hana nodded in agreement. Hana ushered Sakura, Kimi and Umi, gently pushing them out of the room as they kept their eyes on Oikawa's sleeping figure. "Let's go, girls. He's going to need a lot of rest." Mae and Daiki pulled their children along, following them shortly. Takeru was hesitant to leave but did so anyways when his mother's exhausted voice called him.

"I think I'm going to stay the night here." Iwaizumi insisted. "I'll just give my parents a call and they should be fine with it."

"Please Hajime-kun," Oikawa's mother put a loving hand on his cheek. He stared into her red puffy eyes, pulling his face into a grimace. "We know you are Tooru's best friend and that you want to stay by his side but you have school tomorrow, and you should really have a good night's rest."

"That's right," Adrian nodded. "We can come check up on him tomorrow in the morning, before you go to school."

"Please." Iwaizumi pleaded, looking into her eyes sincerely. "Let me stay the night."

Oikawa's mother sighed, knowing that determined look in his eyes. She knew nobody would be able to change his mind now. She pulled her lips into a strained smile, caressing his cheek gently. "Alright. I'll let your parents know and bring you some fresh clothes in the morning." She nodded.

"Thank you so much, Kairi-san." Iwaizumi returned the strained smile.

"Let's go, [Name]-chan." Oikawa's mother said in a hushed voice, giving [Name]'s hand a little squeeze. [Name]'s heart wrenched in guilt. It was her fault that this had happened to Oikawa. If she hadn't asked him to accompany her, he wouldn't be at the hospital now and his mother wouldn't have been crying.

Yet, the Oikawa's held no grudge on her at all. They constantly told her that it wasn't her fault that this had happened. Instead, they comforted her as well despite being in so much pain themselves. They still thought of her as part of their family, and that only fueled her hatred for herself.

She gently pushed off Oikawa's mother's hand, walking towards the sleeping third year. She took a deep breath as she leaned closer to him, brushing his dark brown locks gingerly. Her eyes traced his facial details, savoring each and every curve on his face. She listened to his quiet breathing, watching his chest fall and rise evenly. She gently picked up his hand, rubbing her thumb against his bruised knuckles.

"Oikawa-san," She whispered to him. Her voice so quiet, so desperate. "I won't... Forget."

--

Iwaizumi sat in the chair by Oikawa's bed. It wasn't a comfortable chair. Stiff and hard to sleep on. But it didn't matter, as long as he could stay by his best friend's side for the night. He leaned his back against the chair, taking another long look at the sleeping brunette.

The lights of the room were turned off. The room was dimly lit by the soft blue moonlight outside, along with the streetlamps from outside. Yet, the dim lights were just enough for Iwaizumi to make out Oikawa's face. The shape of his nose, the curls of his lips, the length of his eyelashes. But of course, even without the light, he would still be able to make it out.

They were best friends since childhood after all.

Iwaizumi sighed, leaning his elbow against his bed. He rested his cheek against the back of his hand, examining Oikawa's injuries closer. The bandages, the bruises, the cuts; he wished he could take it all away. He picked up his hand right by his side, gently caressing his bruises knuckles.

"Bakawa... Kusokawa..." The vice captain muttered, burying his face into his folded arms as he let go of Oikawa's hand. Heaving one last heavy sigh, he slowly drifted to sleep.

--

Oikawa's eyes fluttered open, stirring awake. He squinted his eyes, waiting for his vision to clear. Staring up to the ceiling, he realized he was in an unfamiliar room. Where am I?... He tilted his head slightly to the side, trying to get a better look of his surroundings. A sharp pain shot up his brain as he did so, making him freeze in a wince.

He reached his hand out to his head, feeling the bandage around his head. While lifting his hand, he felt his finger tips brushed against something soft, tickling him ever so slightly. He looked down to his side only to find a head of raven hair. He recognized it immediately as Iwaizumi. He watched his for a moment as the pain subsided, carefully take note of the steady rise and falls of the vice captain's back.

"Iwa-chan..." Oikawa tried to speak but his voice was so hoarse that it barely come out as a breath. He hovered his hand over Iwaizumi's head, wanting to run his fingers through his hair. However, he pulled his hand back as soon as he felt stinging in his eyes, knowing that tears were building up against his wishes.

Oikawa tightened his jaw, refraining himself from making any sound. He didn't want to wake Iwaizumi. He couldn't allow Iwaizumi to see him like this. With a hand over his chest, trying to soothe the twisting pain, he pressed the heel of his palm of his other hand on his eye, wiping the unstoppable tears.

It hurt.

It was suffocating.

It was excruciatingly painful.

It wasn't fair.

Oikawa whimpered quietly at the growing pain, carefully pulling his knees closer to his chest, making sure he didn't wake Iwaizumi. All he wanted to do was to cry out, hoping that it would free him of all the pain, all the guilt within him.

But he knew he hadn't got the right to do so. He was the one who did it to himself, he was the one who hurt the two most important people in his life. He thought he was helping, making her happy. That was what he wanted.

Instead, he only hurt them. It was the only thing he didn't want to happen and yet it was the only thing he did.

It was all his fault.

--

Iwaizumi inhaled deeply as he woke up, lifting his head. He groaned at the stiffness of his neck, reaching a hand to massage it gently. With sleep still heavy in his eyes, he squinted at Oikawa's sleeping form. Rubbing his eyes before stretching, he let out a tired yawn.

He turned to the clock on the wall, checking the time. 6:42. It was still early.

He then turned back to Oikawa, pressing his cheeks against this folded arms. He continued to watch the brunette as he breathed steadily, still fast asleep. There were barely any signs of him waking up soon.

Iwaizumi sighed, lightly knitting his brows together. "Wakeup already, Kusokawa..."
