"And if he wants to see her?" Rosalie chimed in with her negative attitude.

"Easy. Video chat. We can say the specialist is in Poland which cost about $2.5k for a round trip ticket." Alice said. "I've seen it and it all works out."

There went a weight lifting off my chest. My family was safe again and in three days Sophia would wake into this new life.

"It's solved. You, Sophia, Esme and I will head out to our home on Decatur Island tonight after I make the call to Charlie." Carlisle finished the family meeting and sent me to go and pack bags for myself and Sophia and to be ready to go in an hour.

I returned to Sophia's side after I finished packing and loading the suburban. Carlisle was already there and he seemed to be assessing her. I sat off to the side of the room while he ran several tests on her. Only after an hour passed by did I bother asking what it was all for.

"You see, every person I've witnessed going through the change has been in complete agony, except her. She isn't making any noise nor is she moving. She is so still it'd be unsettling if I was unable to hear her heart beat." He explained.

"So, what is wrong with her?" I asked.

He picked up a clip board and flipped through several pages before he pulled out a few MRI scans and pinned them on the light board. "She is in a complete vegetative state, her entire spinal cord has been damaged."

"But that doesn't explain why she isn't making any sound. She spoke to me just a minute or two before I changed her. She told me she didn't want to die."

Carlisle pulled out another scan and pinned it up beside the others. "This is the larynx. It is in charge of all sound." He pointed to a spot on the scan. "Her vocal chords are severed, which must've happened when you moved her. I'm guessing it was attached just enough to allow her to speak but once you moved her it detached completely."

"But both those problems will be fixed by the venom after she completes the change, right?" I asked uneasily.

Carlisle nodded. "This is the worst case I've seen so far. She was nearly decapitated, both externally and internally. She would have never survived another minute  without the venom."

A dark feeling fell into the pit of my stomach as I realized that if I had been just a minute more in my decision to change her she wouldn't have survived. Now all I had to worry about was how Sophia would take the transition into becoming a vampire... mentally.

"When she wakes you need to be prepared that things might not work out right away. When we are changed our characteristics and who we are intensifies. One of the characteristics that Sophia has is  borderline personality disorder. It was listed in her medical file."

"And you think this could potentially be a problem?"

Carlisle's mouth pressed into a hard line. "Yes. I do think it could potentially be a problem." I frowned. "But as a family we will do everything to help if it comes to that."

I took in an unneeded breath and then slowly let it out. "What if she decides that she doesn't want to be... with me?" I asked warily.

Carlisle leaned against the counter beside me and gave me a pensive look. "Don't think about that just yet. The most important thing is helping her to adapt to this life. When she's had the time to adjust, however long that might be, then you can address that."

"You are right. Thank you, Carlisle."

He gave me a smile and a nod and then left the room talking about making that call to Charlie. I blew out a long breath before gathering to my feet again. I couldn't wait for Sophia to wake so I could show her all the amazing things about being a vampire.

The trip to our home on Decatur Island was the longest ride of my life. Sophia laid across the back seat and I sat in the center row. When we pulled up at the boat yard I quickly moved her to our families yacht and shortly after everything was loaded up we were off.

Our family owned a 29 acre island that had a massive self-sustaining grid with a house plopped right in the middle. It was perfect for the times when we had to go off the grid for a few years or so because of suspicious humans.

"Wow, this place is brilliant!" I gasped as we docked the yacht at the deep water dock.

I had only ever heard of the place, never been.  We never had a reason to until now.

"We try and make it as comfortable as possible for the family since we only ever come when we need to go into hiding for an extended period of time." Carlisle explained as we headed towards the massive house laid out before us.

After we got everything settled in and Sophia in her room I turned into the family room where Esme and Carlisle were conversing between one another about Sophia. They thought it would be smart to have muscle when Sophia woke so they decided to have Edward, Emmett and Jasper come out at the end of day 2.

Now all there was left to do was wait.
