Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to have twins. A boy and a girl. I was the happiest person in the world when I found out that's what I was having with Adrian. Unfortunately, Adrian having the busiest schedule of being the drummer of a band, we didn't get to see each other much throughout my pregnancy. The unfortunate news came soon enough. The little girl wouldn't be making it. We still however had one baby that would be alive. After he was born, Adrian and I separated soon after, making me a single mom. I hooked up with a countless number of guys, I guess to fill the void Adrian left. Today was the day Adrian was coming to see his son, pick him up, and take him on tour. I had packed everything up for Parker, making sure he would tell Adrian that he needed to call me when they got to their destination. I heard a knock on the door after a moment, opening it to find Adrian and a pretty blonde lady. He introduced me to her as his girlfriend. Her name was Olivia. She had bright blue eyes and her hair was about shoulder length. She was wearing a floral knee length dress with her sunglasses on top of her head, an expensive looking necklace around her neck. I hugged Parker one last time before they took him, leaving me alone. I decided to go out with some friends that night, who did I have to come home to and care for? I got the number of a friendly guy that night and called him a few days later. We went on a few dates while Parker was gone, but we started hanging out less when Parker arrived back home.
A few weeks later and I decided to spend a night alone. I dropped Parker off at my parents' house and decided to watch some movies. I heard a knock on the door after awhile, getting up to see who it was. It was Adrian standing out in the rain. I let him in, and found he was intoxicated. I got him some clean clothes since his were clearly dirty. He sat down on the couch, looking down. "What brings you here?" I ask quietly, glancing over at him. He shrugged and bit his lip. "Do you know your own name?" I found my voice speaking again. When I left our house that night I never wanted to speak to him as much as I was right now. "I do," he replied, leaning back. He always got this quiet and not lively when he'd been drinking and taking some drug. "What did you take?" I ask quietly, tilting my head. He pulled me into his lap, looking up at me. "Run your fingers through my hair," he mumbled. I did so, biting my lip when he let out a purr like noise. "I know what you've been taking," I hum, nodding. "Ecstasy," I say, letting out a sigh.
"Why did you start doing it again?" I ask softly, frowning. "You promised you'd never do it, for Parker's sake."
He shrugged, smiling lazily at me, before pulling me down and pressing his lips to mine.
I pulled away from him, sighing softly. "We can't do this, you have Olivia," I say softly, bring my fingers to my lips.
He shook his head. "Not together anymore," he murmured, kissing me again. I gave into him. I let it happen.
The next morning, I woke up to Adrian in my bed next to me. I widened my eyes, seeing we both had no clothes on. I quickly got dressed, getting Adrian's clothing before waking him up and letting him get dressed. "You seem freaked out," his voice said.
"I can't love you again," I say. "I made that mistake last time and I don't want it to happen again," I whisper.
His face fell. "I see," he said. "I guess I should leave."
And he did.
Weeks later, I found myself in the same position. Naked, laying next to Adrian, then, shoving him out the door again. It came time when he was on tour and again and had to take Parker with him. Since he hadn't seen him in awhile. When he knocked on the door I told Parker to go get a toy he wanted to show Adrian and that we would meet him in the living room.
"We can't keep hooking up," I say, looking up toward Adrian's green eyes.
"You like hooking up with me though," he replied, leaning down to kiss me. I quickly pushed him away. "We can't do it anymore," I repeat, shaking my head. "I'm starting to fall in love with you again and I can't keep having sex with you."
"You're falling in love with me again?" He asks. I simply nodded, before shaking my head. "Stop. We can't do this. We can't get back together."
"Say what you want but I say we should get back together."
His eyes glanced down slightly, a small smile brought to his face. "You're wearing the necklace?" He asks, his eyes traveling back up to mine. "You're wearing Bella's necklace?" He asks again.
He had given me this necklace when he found out Isabella wasn't going to make it.
I nodded up at him, turning away. "You're going to be late," I say softly, shaking my head.
He nodded. "I guess," he replies.
And so he took Parker again and brought him back in a few weeks.
And we start the cycle over again. Hooking up, having a small fight, getting over each other and hooking up again.
I decided it was time for it to end. I dropped Parker at my parents' house again, driving over to Adrian's house.
When he let me in, I sat down on the couch, him sitting across from me.
"I'm so in love with you and we can't keep doing this."
He agreed with me and decided enough was enough.
"Do you wanna know something?" He asks, looking at me. "What?" I ask, raising my eyebrows.
"I bought our house, the one you should," he says.
"How do you keep paying for that?" I ask. "I just do, okay?"
"Why did you let me leave? Why were you so okay with everything? Why did you let me have so much freedom?" I was firing questions at him.
He sighed. "I always figured it was good to let you have what you wanted. It tore me to pieces when you walked out, trying to sell that house with it. You don't know the pain I felt."
I remembered the night I left. Tears streaming down my face as I held Parker close to me, all my things packed in the car. I put Parker in the back and drove all the way to my parents house. I sobbed on my mothers shoulder when I got there. They helped me find the money to live in a house, then when the house got sold I got a job and paid for the house myself.
I sigh, shrugging at his response. I still wondered why I agreed we should get back together. "Why didn't you ever tell me no?" I ask softly.
"Like I said, your happiness has always meant more to me than anything else, if you told me to leave my band I would, for you," he said.
"I just wanted to be told 'no' one time, and that one time could probably make sure we never even had to have this conversation right now."
He hushed me after that, gently pressing his lips to mine. It felt so loving, the way it hadn't felt when we were just hooking up.
I guess that's how we ended up here, waking up each morning with Adrian next to me. We're married with a little girl. It's a family I've always hoped for. Of course we had a bumpy road getting here. Slowly, we've made it work. I guess that's my happy ending, ending up with a husband and two amazing kids.
