Prompt: "you're pretty happy for a dead man."

--------------------
"Are you alright?" I ask, moving to sit down on the wooden floor beside Wren. "What?" She asked, clearly snapping out of her thoughts. "I think so," she says quietly, looking toward me. I set my cup of tea down, wrapping my arm around her shoulders. "I should be," she says quietly, resting her head against my shoulder. She looks down at her ring, smiling slightly. "I'm sorry I couldn't give you more," I say quietly. "We said no diamonds," she reminds me, shrugging, moving away from me after a moment. "But that's not it," she says, shaking her head. "You think I'm weird," she says, laughing quietly. I grin, leaning over to kiss her cheek gently. "Of course I do, that's why I keep you around."
I look out the large window, staring at the city. "You're going to be fine," I say, looking to her again, her grey-blue tear-filled eyes greeting mine. "But that's not even true," she whispers. "What if I'm not going to be okay?" She asks after a moment. "I'm going to miss you," I say quietly. "I'm going to miss you too," she says, her voice cracking. "I've got chemo tomorrow," Wren whispers. "I'm so fucking  scared, Zach."
That was two months ago. Before it all went downhill. I had the most realistic dream, she had came my window and hugged me tightly. Telling me to miss the flight back to California to come visit her in person one last time, resting her forehead against my chest as I played with her hair. I got up out of bed the next morning, deciding it was just a stupid dream, showering quickly. I pulled on my clothes, running a comb through my hair before grabbing my suitcase. I got onto the plane, everything was so normal until we reached 30,000. The wing broke. Everyone rushed for their oxygen masks, panicking. I didn't grasp for mine, smiling, I leaned back. "I'm on my way," I whispered. I ran a hand through my hair, patiently waiting for my arrival and to see her again.
I can't help but imagine what would've happened if I had listened. I wouldn't have ended like this, but I would've had to wait to see her again.
