When the night fell, just one week from Halloween, Santa was working late, he was making checks on his orders and compiling the Naughty and Nice list. Suddenly all the lights went out. He lit a candle and then a single concentrated moon beam his the globe offset by a shadow as dark as Pitch. Wait. That was Pitch! The globe began to become rusted then it turned black and cracked. Santa ran to turn on the borealis. Pitch was back and it was worse than before. Possibly too strong for even Jack Frost, the newest possibly most powerful guardian. The Man in the Moon would appoint a new one. He came back to the globe room, there on the floor was a note from the Man in the Moon himself.
" All of you are very powerful indeed but it is not enough this time. Pitch is too powerful this time to be held in sleep. Precious time is short and you must find a way to beat him before Halloween. On that night fear is at its most powerful and nightmares are common. I will be coming in person to appoint the new guardian. She will test your trust and bring you together. I trust everyone will be here when I arrive at midnight tomorrow."
Santa for the first time ever, paled. The situation had to be dire of the Man in the Moon to come down to meet them. But now the list could wait. He needed to go sharpen his swords.
Sandman arrived first in a luminous chariot of golden sand. He asked what the matter was and Santa simply gave him the note. Sandy read it quickly and soon exclamation points began flashing over his head. He made the angriest scowl he could and puffed. Santa understood. He was worried too. They didn't even know that Pitch's goal was this time.
Next at his office window there was a rapping. He got out of his chair put down his eggnog and walked over to the window. There with his normal cheeky grin was Jack Frost. He opened the window.
"So what seems to be the problem Santa?" Jack asked with his usual tone. His hair shimmered with snowflakes trapped in his ice white locks. His smirk was there along with that mischievous glint in his eyes. Santa headed to wipe that look off that young boy's face. But he had to inform him of what was happening if he was to prepare.
"Jack, there is a problem..Pitch he's back and more powerful than ever." Santa said."It's so bad that the Man in the Moon is coming personally." Jack's smile fell. He was their saving grace last time. If he couldn't save his friends then what use was he to them?
"But," continued Santa, "he is appointing a new guardian."
A new voice entered into the conversation.
"Hope it's not the groundhog." Bunnymund muttered.
Tooth raced in at that moment. She had been eavesdropping so she knew what was happening.
"Or Cupid, he is suck a jerk." She said. She always tried to keep things light.
"Manny said that she would test out trust and bring us together." Santa said.
"Whatever that means." Said the rabbit.
"We'll have to wait and see."
