(Gaara)
Why do we have a prostitute living with us? Seriously, when did that become our thing? I'm not going to say anything about it though. It would not be right for a Kazekage to look down on people like her. And she might be useful in the investigation. She might know the victims and be able to tell us if maybe there's a connecting factor. "I just think it's weird is all." Temari continued. "Not that she's a prostitute and that she has no where else to go, but the fact she slept with Kankuro!" That much I had to agree with. I honestly believed Kankuro had higher standards when it came to women.
"We just have to live with it until the investigation is over and she can go back."
"But Gaara, so many issues."
"I understand, but theres nothing I can do at this point." She sighed and put her head in her hand. With the conversation over I stood and headed down the hall. I wondered briefly if our guest was still in the shower.
"Undra... you stupid ho." Heavy, yet somehow quiet sobs followed, drifting from the bathroom. I pushed open the door a bit, finding Kisa on the floor in a ball, in nothing more than a towel. She must have been holding in her tears all that time we were questioning her. Strong girl.
Her head popped up, tear filled lavender eyes peering up at me, face void of any make-up. She quickly cleared away her tear. "Hey cutie. Sorry. I didn't mean to take such a long shower." What happened to the confidence she so proudly displayed earlier on the street? Right now she seems like a scared little girl. And I can't blame her. She stood up and continued to wipe at her eyes, but no matter how many times she wiped at them, they kept on coming. She couldn't stop. "Oh God, what's going on?" The sobs began again and I had no idea what to do in this situation.
I really didn't want to touch her, but I didn't know what to say. So I just stood there, letting her cry and scream in her frustration. Soon her crying turned into nothing more than terrified, unhappy groans. That's when she finally started to take deep breaths and calm down. I saw that confidence begin to grow in her again. Not fully. But it was there.
"So." She started, her voice still thick and shaky. "What are you doing in here? Change your mind about accepting my services?" She cracked a small grin and twirled a piece of her long curly red hair.
"I was making sure you were alright."
"I'm fine cutie. Just tired is all." Please stop calling me that. I nodded to her and said goodnight, heading down the hall to my office. If I can get some work done on the case tonight, we can start again with Kisa in the morning and I can fulfill my Kazekage duties in the afternoon and train Matsuri after that. At that point I can come back home and breath for awhile. This investigation has me up the wall. Five girls have been murdered now in the span of two months, all in the same way. Each one was disemboweled with their left ring finger cut off.
I set the pictures of the five victims out on my desk looking for anything that might connect them together. Each one was as different as sun and moon but there had to be something. The first one was a very pale girl with copper hair and a scar on her left temple. The second was darker skinned and slightly large. Each of these girls were so different. But maybe someone like them can see a similarity. Maybe a prostitute will know. That's why we need Kisa to help us in this.
Although I do feel bad for her. This is the life she knows, which is sad all in itself. But now it's all being ripped away from her. She can't live the life she knows, she has to create a different one, temporarily at least. Not to mention she lost someone very dear to her. Looking up at the clock I realized I had been working for several hours. With a sigh I pushed away from the desk and headed to the kitchen. A cup of tea and back to work.
On my way I glanced at the couch where Kisa was sleeping. She seems like shes at least sleeping well, holding her pillow tightly and legs tangled in the blanket. If she can help us in the investigation maybe this can be completed in minimal time so she can have her life back. In the kitchen I pulled the cup down and a strainer, but Temari had moved the tea again. Why can't she just leave things alone? In any case, I started to heat up some water as I went in search of the tea. As I opened one of the cabnets, it made a strange sound. But then it happened again.
The sound was soft, but there was a weird feeling to it. Only when it turned into terrified screams did I realize it was Kisa in the other room. She was pressing her hands to her eyes and screaming shrilly, kicking, trashing on the couch. "It was him! I saw him! It was him!" Kankuro and Temari both rushed into the room with concern etched on their faces. Kankuro immediately went to Kisa and tried to wake her. But she continued to scream those lines.
Finally, Temari walked into the kitchen and brought out a glass of water, tossing it on her. Kisa popped up wide eyed and looked around. "What?"
"Are you okay?" Kankuro asked.
"I..." She paused. "I could see him." Her eyes grew wide. "I saw the man that killed Undra."
