Through the phone, Mai Ding harshly scolded An Ziyan yet again. After his parents saw that photo, his ears were almost pulled off by Mai Ding's mom. It took him several days to convince his parents that the photo was fake.

"An Ziyan, you're not allowed to do something like this again. What would I do if my parents become suspicious?" Mai Ding held his phone while pacing back and forth in his room, one minute he was poking the wall, the next he be crumpling a piece of paper.

An Ziyan didn't answer Mai Ding's question: "Hey, when are you planning to tell your parents?"

"What, didn't you say that you can wait?"

"Just don't like to be so secretive."

"You just have to go with the flow when it comes to these kinds of things ah."

"Why do I feel like you're avoiding it?"

"I'm not." Mai Ding was actually still unsure. He knew that delaying it like this was not fair to An Ziyan, but this wasn't some sort of race. No matter how much reassurance and courage Mai Ding gave himself every day, but when he actually face his parents, he just didn't know where to start from. He was afraid, afraid of so many things.

"Oh really?"

"I'm really not! Okay, let's not talk about this right now. I won't be coming over these few days, I'll see you when school starts."

"Okay." An Ziyan was just about to hang up when Mai Ding stopped him: "An Ziyan."

"What now?!"

"Well, um, remember to think of me every day for at least an hour. Okay, that's it, bye-bye." Mai Ding hastily hung up the phone and slapped his face in front of the mirror, trying to slap the blushing away.

Suddenly, he felt that something was wrong, very wrong. It was as if something was missing. In the mirror, his fingers were empty... the ring! The ring that An Ziyan had given him was gone. When did it go missing? Mai Ding remembered seeing it a few days ago. He circled around the room panicking, he couldn't find it even after turning the entire room upside down. Then, he ran to his mother: "Mom, did you see my ring?"

"You mean your fake diamond ring? I didn't see it."

Mai Ding lied to his mom and told her it was just a fake ring that he bought from a store.

"How could it go missing? Did you hide it somewhere?"

"I'm not crazy. How much is that thing worth anyway? If it's lost, then it's lost." His mom didn't think much of it.

But Mai Ding couldn't take it and began to search everywhere yet again. Then, he thought back to the route he had taken when he was coming home from An Ziyan's house. He anxiously walked along that road again and again, trying to find the ring. After a day of searching, Mai Ding's heart was heavier than before. Even if it got lost on the streets, someone else must have picked it up by now. How would he still be able to find it? That was the logic, but Mai Ding still wasn't willing to give up. In his mind, the scene of An Ziyan kneeling in front of him and putting the ring on his finger kept reappearing. How could he lose such a precious thing? If An Ziyan knew, he would yell at Mai Ding for sure. Yet being scolded at isn't even a big deal, but An Ziyan would feel irritated. It wasn't just a mere ring, it was a promise, a commitment.

Mai Ding ended up searching for several days. He even had to fight back the urge to give An Ziyan a call. When school started again, he still hadn't found it. He was still comforting himself that perhaps it was somewhere in his room, it's just that he hadn't seen it yet. As long as he found it before An Ziyan found out, then all would be well.
