I Grew Up

I grew up in a world
Where insults were key,
Where people fed on others displeasure,
Where worrying about others was all life was about;
Maybe that's not how you grew up.

I grew up in a generation
Where everyone disrespects others,
Where the suicide rate was high,
where the kids hurt themselves to be heard;
Maybe that's not how you grew up.

I'm fat, right?
Stupid?
Don't know what I'm doing?
Ugly?
I grew up with insults filling my brain; hopefully that's not how you grew up.

Let's turn the insults into compliments;
Hatred into love.
Let's change our ways
And open our minds;
Maybe that's how you grew up.

It's not our world,
it's our generation.
The generation
That was influenced by other generations;
Nobody should have to grow up these ways.
