Jasmine's POV:

"Jasmine! Wake up, you're going to be late!" My mom yelled from downstairs. I groaned as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes. Today was my first day at Hogwarts. I recently transferred there from Ilvermorny, the American school of witchcraft and wizardry. I made my way to the bathroom and made myself presentable before I changed. I put on some black jeans, a dark purple t-shirt, black hoodie, and some black converse type shoes. I then put on all my rings. I have a wolf ring, skull ring, and a ring with a topaz set; they're all silver in color. I grabbed my black colored trunk along with my bag/satchel, and headed downstairs. Last week I went to Diagon Ally to get all of my supplies. I was excited, especially for Potions, Defence Against the Dark Arts, and Herbology. Thanks to my good grades I was able to get placed in fourth year, which is pretty good. At Ilvermorny I was supposed to be going into my faith year. I didn't mind having to go an extra year of magic school, mostly because I love magic. "Go on, sit down and eat! You'll need it for the ride to Hogwarts." My father said. I know we seem like an ordinary family to everyone, but I'm actually adopted. I never knew my biological parents; I remember when I was younger someone told me they died in a car accident. I've always wondered who they were, but I'm glad I got such kind foster parents. My dad said he went to Hogwarts before he and his wife moved to America. My mom is clearly a muggle, but she enjoys the excitement that magic brings. "Sweetie, I got you a gift." My grandmother said as she walked into the kitchen. She's a witch too. "You didn't have to get me anything." I replied. "I wanted to, besides, it's help you out this year...like a good luck charm." She said as she put a necklace over my head (the one in the picture above). "Thanks, I really like it." I said with a smile. "I knew you would." She replied with a smile. I ate my food in silence for a while until my dad spoke up. "I wonder how they'll place you in a house." He said. "I completely forgot about that. What houses do they have?" I said. "They have Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. I was in Hufflepuff, but it doesn't matter which house you get put in. Don't think I want you in Hufflepuff just because I was." He said kindly. "Thanks, I wonder which one I'll be put in since I was in Thunderbird." I replied. "Who knows, but I'll be proud of you whichever you end up in." He said. I smiled and finished eating. I quickly brushed my teeth and headed out to the car. It seemed like ages before we made it to the train station, but when we did my nerves kicked in. I hoped that I somewhat fit in, even though I was probably the only American there. My dad went into platform 9 3/4 with me to see me on my way. "You learn a lot and have fun, okay?" He said as he gave me a hug. "I will, I promise." I replied before we pulled apart. I waved at him after I got on the train. I was lucky enough to find an empty compartment; I just wanted to be alone and read my book. It was about applying magic to muggle talents like art or music. I love to draw and paint. I was learning how to make my drawings come to life before I left Ilvermorny. The sky become dark and rain began poring from the clouds. I've always loved the rain, and it made me feel better. For some reason it calmed my nerves down even more. After a while the train started to take off, and I started to calm down as I read. I was partly finished the with the tenth chapter when the train came to screeching halt. I placed my bookmark in my book and glanced out of the window. I couldn't see anything, but I had a feeling something bad was put there. The necklace my grandmother gave me began to glow a pale blue color. I figured it was charmed to let me know when bad things were near. The power in the train went out as well, which added more to the creepy vibe. 'Something's coming on the train.' I said to myself. It seemed like forever until we were moving again, but I knew for sure someone on this train knew exactly what caused our delay. I checked the time and put my book away before I changed into my robes. They were just black and gray with the school's crest on them. I figured it would be replaced with my house crest, just like at Ilvermorny. When the train stopped we were out in the treacherous downpour. "Miss. Shacklebolt! Jasmine Shacklebolt!" I heard a bellowing man's voice say. "Here!" I said loudly. A giant bushy man appeared out of the shadows holding a pink umbrella. I figured he was half giant, I've seen my share of giants back in America. "Ah, it's  pleasure to meet you Jasmine. My name's Hagrid; Dumbledore told me to personally escort you to the school. From their one of the other professors will escort you to the great hall. Follow me." He said kindly. I followed him to a large black carriage attached to a black colored creature. It was a mix between a terrordactyl and a horse. I thought it looked pretty magnificent myself. That's one thing I've never seen before. That's part of why I'm so excited about coming here; I'll get to see new things and new spell casting techniques. "Hagrid, what's pulling the carriage?" I asked curiously. "Could you see it?" He asked. "Yes." I replied with furrowed brows. "It's called a Thestral. They can only be seen by those who have seen death." He said. My mind flashed back to when I saw a man get attacked by a wolf. I was young, and I wasn't capable of helping him. I remember it use to give me nightmares. I shook the thought out of my head and focused on the rain outside. "You will let me know if you like it here, won't you?" Hagrid asked randomly. "Of course." I said with a smile. "My house is on school grounds, so don't hesitate to come and visit." He said with a friendly smile. "I'll make sure I will." I replied with a smile. We stoped at the gates and got out into the rain again. He told me my belongings would be waiting in my room, so I didn't ask many questions. We walked through the front doors and I was amazed at the architecture. It was absolutely beautiful. I saw a few ghosts flying about, and a few said hi. I was use to them, thanks to Ilvermorny; they have their own ghosts. "The ghosts are usually friendly, it's Peeves, the poltergeist you have to watch out for." Hagrid said. "Hagrid, thank you so much for bringing our guest early." A woman with a pointy hat said. She was dressed in a lovely green colored robes as well. "You're very welcome Mcgonagall." Hagrid said before he left. I figured he had to help some of the students out. "Miss. Shacklebolt, it's a pleasure to meet you." She said. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well professor." I replied kindly. "Follow me to the great hall. Now, since you're the first transfer student you'll be sitting at the high table with me and the other professors. Dumbledore will introduce you and the other changes before the feast, but after the sorting ceremony. You will be sorted in Dumbledore's office after the feast, is all of that clear?" She said as we walked up some stairs. "Yes professor." I replied. "Good, you listen well." She said. We walked into the great hall, and it was everything I expected. Long tables, and big long windows. A few professors were sitting at the high table already, and Mcgonagall introduced us. I ended up sitting between Mcgonagall and Dumbledore. All the teachers appeared at the high table as the previous students filled their house tables. A man dressed in all black caught my eye, he was on the other end of the table. He had shoulder length black hair and a big hooked nose. Mcgonagall told me his name was professor Snape. Mcgonagall left the high table and came back with the first years. I couldn't help but remember the time I got sorted into my Ilvermorny house. After all the students were sorted the feast began, which I was much grateful for. I was starving! "Miss. Shacklebolt, how do you like Hogwarts so far?" Mrs. Sprout asked me curiously. I was so glad Mcgonagall told me the names of who was sitting where. "I think it's beautiful, but I won't know how much I'll like it until tomorrow." I replied kindly. "Are their any classes your particularly excited for, or looking forward to?" Dumbledore asked. He was a tall man with a long white beard and twinkling blue eyes. "I'm mostly excited for Potions, Herbology, and Defence Against the Dark Arts." I replied. "Well, I'm sure you'll enjoy those. Especially going by your previous marks. I recall you receiving an Outstanding in Potions." Dumbledore remarked. "Professor Snape shouldn't have any problems with you. You'll probably end up being his best student this year." Mcgonagall said. "We'll see about that." Snape replied in a deep velvety voice. It matched his appearance very well; it made him seem ten times as mysterious. I gave him a slight smile when our eyes met, but he didn't return the gesture. I wasn't surprised either. He seemed like the type to hide his emotions....just like me. Soon the feast was over and Dumbledore took semester stage at his podium. "As many of you all may have noticed, we have two new people sitting at the high table. I'd like to introduce to you our transfer student, Miss Jasmine Shacklebolt," He said and paused for applause. I stood up and sat back down so they could see exactly who I was. "She's from the American wizarding school. I hope you all make her feel at home, and show her kind hospitality. I'd also like to introduce your new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Lupin." He said. He talked a little more before he dismissed the students to their dormitories. After they left I followed Dumbledore, Mcgonagall, Flitwick, and Snape to Dumbledore's office. "Lemon drops." Dumbledore said when we stopped in front of a griffin statue. It started moving, and it revealed a stone staircase. We followed him upstairs and into a wooden door. "Now, time to see which house you belong in." Dumbledore said as he grabbed the sorting hat. He placed it on my head, and a voice evaded my mind.

"Ah very interesting. You're creative, smart, loyal, brave, and ambitious. You seem to have traits that could fit into all four houses, but I must pick one. Ah yes, must be....Slytherin!"

Dumbledore snatched the hat off of my head and clapped his hands together. "May I ask what your house was at Ilvermorny?" He asked curiously. "I was in Thunderbird." I replied. "Interesting." He said as a faraway look invaded his eyes. "Snape will be your head of house. He'll show you to the Slytherin common room and your dorm. I hope you enjoy your time here at Hogwarts, Miss Shacklebolt. Good night all of you." Dumbledore said. The rest of us headed out of his office, and I swiftly followed professor Snape. The other professors must have retired to their own chambers, and I didn't blame them. I was feeling tired as well. Snape was walking ahead of me at a quick pace, but I didn't have trouble with following him. His black cape was bellowing behind him, I couldn't stop thinking of how much he looked like a superhero. Especially with his cape, that's the hero cliche. He said the password and showed me where my room was. "Good night Miss Shacklebolt. See you in Potions class tomorrow......don't.....be....late." He said before he gracefully left. I couldn't help the smile on my face, I knew I was going to enjoy this place a lot more than I thought.
