I stood by my starting block, I was freaking nervous. Alex had told me Nico was the fastest sprinter from our year, so there was no way I was going to win.
“Wait, I have an even better idea.” Mister Asshole said. “Why don’t we do the 400 metre hurdles? That will be even more fun.”
He ordered to guys to set everything out. I had never done this before so I was kinda, no VERY scared. My legs are as long as matchsticks if you compare them to Nico’s and the hurdles ended more or less at my elbow. From the corner of my eye I saw Cameron waving at me to come. I went to him and Parker, Alex was nowhere to be seen. Cameron looks concerned
“Grace, err.. Not to be mean or something, but.. err.. You are kinda short.. so, err…”
“There is a big chance I will fall and break my legs, neck, arms and whatever there is to break besides from that?”
“Yes…”
“Where is Alex by the way, he was here five minutes ago.”
“He went to get someone… I mean something.”
“Okay…”
“Lady, are you still coming?” Mister Robbertson said.
I smiled my sweetest smile ever and went my starting block. Nico looked at me
“Never did this before, I suppose, shorty??”
“No, never tried to be nice to people, I suppose, asshole?”
“Tried, didn’t like it, you have to put so much effort into it.”
“Whatever.”
“ON YOUR MARKS.” Mister PE screamed “GET SET….GO!!!”
Aaaand I ran.. and ran… and jumped.. and don’t forget, I fell.. hard. Ground can be very mean to you, you know that?? In slowly opened my eyes and tried if every part of me still worked. In front of me I saw the face of Alex and Mister Ance. Wait? What was Mister Ance doing here? Mister Ance looked at me and smiled
“I was told that the competition was very unfair?”
“Kinda.. a lot..”
“Are you okay??”Alex asked.
I nodded, “I’m fine, thank you.”
when I sat up, a third face appeared.
“Guess we have to redo this match after you practised a little.” Nico said, grinning. I grimaced “I’ll pass that one!”
“Are you sure you are okay?” Mister Ance asked.
“I’m fine.” I said, while standing up. He nodded
“Well, then you have to go to your next class, I suppose..”
I nodded and walked in the direction of my changing room, the toilet.
“Ehh… Grace, other way.” Nico said.
“Right.”
