"Is there a Miss (Y/L/N) in here?"
You look up from your phone to locate the owner of the deep, strong voice. Your eyes settle on a tall man about your age with short brown hair and puppy dog brown eyes wearing light blue scrubs and a white lab coat. His stance is a confident one, and you can immediately dub him as the guy who thinks he knows everything and sleeps with anything that breathes. He stands in the middle of the waiting room and sweeps his eyes across it, looking for anyone to claim the surname. "That's me," you call, raising your hand slightly. The man focuses his gaze on you. "Is Harrison okay?" you ask, the concern thick in your voice.
The man flashes you a smile that you assume is meant to entice you. "Harrison is fine. He's ready for visitors, so anyone else who might be here to see him can follow me."
You uncross your legs and slip your phone back into your purse, abandoning the text that you had begun writing to update your aunt on your brother's condition. You place both hands on the green leather covering the chair and softly boost yourself up. "It's just me right now," you confess to the doctor as he leads you down a pristine hallway that's bustling with nurses. "I didn't think we'd be able to see him this early. Our parents were tired, so I told them to go home."
The man nods sympathetically. "That's understandable." He stops at a door on your right and opens it. "After you," he offers, flashing his seductive smile once again.
Your heart flutters slightly. Stop it, you scold it in your mind.
"Thank you," you say simply, determined not to let him have the satisfaction of sparking up the interest of yet another woman who would most likely exit his memory in at least an hour.
A small, dark-skinned female doctor with a short haircut awaits you in the tiny hospital room. And so does your beloved brother.
"Harrison!" you breathe, rushing forward to his bed. The man takes his place next to the woman, placing his hands behind his back. "Are you okay? How're you feeling?"
Your brother waves a hand dismally. "It's fine, (Y/N/N)."
You turn to the two doctors. "How is he?"
The short doctor smiles warmly. "Your brother is fine. The tumor is completely gone. He's cancer free."
Your heart leaps. You twirl around and wrap your brother in a tight embrace. "It's gone," you whisper to him through tears.
"Yeah, it is," murmurs Harrison. "All thanks to them." The doctors. The wonderful doctors.
You straighten up so you can thank them properly. "Thank you so much, Doctor..." You realize that you don't know either of their names.
"Doctor Miranda Bailey," finishes the woman. She gestures to the flirt. "This is Doctor Alex Karev."
"I'm sorry," you say guiltily. "I would know your names, if someone," you look accusingly at your brother, "had told me that anything was going on with him."
Harrison raises his hands in mock surrender. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you!"
"I thought we were close," you tease.
"It's not just you! I didn't tell anyone!" he protests.
You brush off your brother in good humor and rush forward to envelope Doctor Bailey into a hug. "Thank you so much, Doctor Bailey."
"You're welcome, sweet girl," she says softly, squeezing back.
You turn to Karev. "Did you help with his surgery?"
