Seoul is wonderful. Korea is great, really. Mostly if you're Korean, have lived there your entire life, and are familiar with the place. Unfortunately, I don't fit that description. My family tree is brimming with people of all regions of Europe and North America. I thought I could be an average, American, boring college student for at least a little longer, but my luck seems to have brought me in a different direction.
It was November 5th when I was contacted by Pledis Entertainment.
It was November 6th when I set out for Korea for the first time in ten years.
My life is great, for a lonely nineteen year-old with nothing going for her except artistic and linguistic talents. I lived by myself in a studio apartment in L.A, conquering my fears by making a poor attempt at independence. Moving out here from The Middle Of Nowhere, UK was my way of trying to 'find myself'. Evidently, all I found were snobby tourists and a lack of spending money.
Pledis Entertainment was an up-and-coming talent agency in an enormous industry-most commonly known as K-pop, and taking Korea and the world by storm.
A dear old friend of mine put in a recommendation for me for the newest job opening, kindly interrupting my first year of college nearly a month in. But I'm not complaining.
The job? I'm to be an English teacher for one of the hottest K-pop groups in Korea.
Seventeen.
