Farkle is a person who makes Riley feel completely at home... or made her feel like that. Ever since he leaked her secret on the roof doubts about his loyalty have seeped into her mind. In fact she's found it can even keep her awake some nights.
She loves Farkle, that's always something she's known, and he loves her, and blood or not they're family. They're supposed to be, they've been playing the long game for as long as she can remember. And more even Farkle promised he'd always love her just as much as Maya.
The thing was on that roof she knew he'd made a choice. Either he couldn't bare the idea of her being unhappy and wanted Lucas to choose her instead of Maya, throwing Maya under the bus or he'd chosen Maya and told Lucas because he couldn't bare the idea of her being with him. She considered him wanting an even playing field for all but this was Farkle and he would do anything to protect his friends, and the only plausible why to protect all their friendships was to fix this love triangle thing as soon as possible, at least that's how she saw Farkle seeing it.
Neither of those seemed right though and worst of all she found herself hoping he'd chosen her. She was supposed to want the best for Maya, it was why she stepped back from Lucas but everything was too complicated in her head or in her heart and she had no clue which was which anymore.
She already feels as though she's lost Lucas, to even consider she's lost Farkle is impossible. She thinks what hurts the most though was when she saw him leave with everyone else. How she saw that it seemed in high school he wasn't rooting for her quite as much as always. She always knew they would all grow up in high school. They'd all find their own clubs and interests and apparently Smakles but she never foresaw Farkle walking by her as she sat in a hole she dug up herself and not have been even noticed. She never foresaw Farkle outgrowing her. Pluto was always supposed to be a planet in his room.
She started missing everything about him, old him, the one who wore turtlenecks and followed her like a puppy. She was upset with herself when she caught herself pinning for the days where "ladies" was a sure occurrence and "Hahh!" echoed in her classroom. It was wrong to do when he'd grown so much and she was so proud of it too. Thinking of that Farkle gave her peace though because she knew he'd be there, until she realized she never lost that at all.
When he stepped through her window to tell her what her permanent record was he reminded her of his too. Farkle would always show up when she was in need and for her confused teenage self that doesn't even really know what she wants from him yet, that was more than enough.
