Reasonal

There seems to be this lack of respect,

But really that is what you have to expect

From  a society that is so involved with the ‘me’

That they neglect that they have to see

There are a whole other set of people other there

That are ready to help them, to love them, to care.

But we are only able to see to the end of our nose

But, again, that is the way we are now I suppose.

If you were to look to your right and smile

And when you look at my shoes think about walking a mile.

Again, it is sad but I have to say

This is not how it is, few actually live this way.

And when I do, smile at the ones passing by,

They look at me with suspicion, wondering why

I have the audacity to care for my neighbor

Without wanting even the tiniest favor.

How can we set all of these wrongs to right,

If we don’t join together and know how to fight

For what it is that this world needs the most right now –

Understanding and hope and even love but mostly how

To live together under different banners of peace,

That allows one another to live how they want, at least

To the point that personal space is accepted and acceptance is personal

Decisions are made, and we know that they may not be ours but their “reasonal”.

Yes, I made up that word for that spot, and I’ll do more than break that rule too,

It happens that the ones who look for success often do.

Break the rules of society to get their point across to the people,

And I warn you that this has nothing to do with the size of my steeple.

I think that we need to see what is right from what is wrong,

The real true atrocities that occur, to the anthem of song

That our countries sing to cover up this mess

That we all take part in, even me, I have to confess

That we all get so caught up in the now

That hardly anyone would really know how

To go back and look at the abused, the down trodden and forget

How we are the ones who really, truly did let

The situation get to the point of no return,

And from one mistake to the next we did not really learn.

We have to stop and take part in this life that we own,

And know that we never go down this road alone.

Smile, it doesn’t hurt to do that one small thing

And seemingly insignificant, you’d never imagine the change it can bring.

And if one small change of the face can do all of what I said and more,

Imagine if we were to hold out our hand,  what that would hold in store,

For the one that thinks she has nothing left at all in this life,

And the one that thinks he’s alone with his strife.

Be it that time of year for you, it isn’t for me, but any one can be the season

That you allow yourself to be taken over by reason.
