My mother called me over and I practically sprinted over to her happy to have an excuse to get away from that creep. "Ember, darling." She said as she pulled me to her side and turned to the man she was talking to. "You remember Alpha Cohen Smith, right dear?" I nodded smiling even though I had no idea who he was.

"Hello sir, I'm Ember but I'm sure you know that." I said shaking his hand. He laughed.

"Of course, I've known you since you were three, although I doubt you remember me." He said with a smile.

"Honestly I can't recall, which is a shame you seem lovely." I said remembering the manners my mother so diligently drilled into my brain.

My mother spoke up, "Well dear, since you haven't found your mate, and honestly your father and I don't believe you will, we have found you a husband." I stared at her as she smiled. "That's why I wanted to meet Cohen here dear. We've, your father, cohen and I, have been planning your wedding,"

I stared at her then turned and looked at Alpha Smith. "What do you mean husband. I still have a mate out there, hes probably looking for me. If I get married he'll be so betrayed. Mother how could you?"

My mother looked at me with a disappointed stare, "Ember, you will marry Alpha Smith and that's final. We can't have your frolicking about mateless with no cares. You are not some mutt. You are an Alphas daughter and I expect you to act like one. You are being selfish and I will not tolerate it." She took a breath before continuing, "Now, if you could please apologize to Alpha Smith now we can move on from this like adults."

I gave her a fake smile and turned to Alpha Smith, "My mother is right, I do owe you an apology. I'm very sorry my parents lead you to believe we were to be married. I have a mate and I'm not one to cheat. Sorry for this horrible misunderstanding. If you'll excuse me," I turned on my heels back towards my mother, "Mother." I said before walking off to enjoy the rest of the party.
