Chapter 8

Two cabs pull up in front of a large mansion, the type that looked nice because of the age and style it was built in. The others all climbed out from the stuffy yellow car, allowing one to drive away while Erik, Seraphina, and Darwin got out of the second car. She almost tripped on the rocky ground, but Erik caught her arm before she tumbled out of control. The events of the last twenty four hours had been hard on her for various reasons.

There was the fireball, and the accidental telepathic reading she hadn't divulged to anyone yet. Thus, she was not too steady on her feet yet.

Being so focused on not falling over, she only caught the end of the sarcastic conversation about Charles' home. Raven almost skipped over to where Seraphina was standing and offered her arm. "I'll show you the place. Full tour." she said happily. One glance around told Seraphina that no one else was particularly interested, so she shrugged and went with it, letting go of Erik.

"We'll all probably have rooms along this hall." Raven finished her 'tour' as she pointed along the hall at three or four doors in either direction. "Of course, there are more rooms, this house is giant."

Seraphina smiled. "Yes, it is rather large. Was it lonely to grow up in such a cavernous space?"

Raven seemed to think about that. "I can't really recall. Charles might have been boring, but I never really thought much of the size of the place." Seraphina nodded absently.

"So, what happened back there? I mean, at the base, if you don't mind me-" Raven couldn't get the thoughts out of her head. Seraphina gave away much of her past in attempts to get Angel to stay with them, only for Angel to throw it back in her face, literally. Spit more like. Just the thoughts of such a dark time gave her shivers down her spine, as if someone had taken a cold metal fork and ever so lightly made an invisible line down her back with the edge.

"No, no of course not. Mental exhaustion for one. I'm afraid I don't know much myself. It may be something Charles will have to find in my head, something useful. I don't want to collapse again in a fight." Raven nodded, a small smirk pulling up the corners of her lips.

"Something only Charles can figure out, hmm?" Seraphina didn't hear the slightly sarcastic note in her voice, but when she turned to Raven she blushed for some odd reason.

"Well, yes, seeing as he's the only telepath available." Seraphina rationalized. Really though, she knew the answer simple in the fact she knew exactly what had happened. Angel's emotions were strong, and somehow Seraphina caught them in her mind, and the sheer intensity of them was overwhelming to say the least.

Raven meanwhile continued to smirk, as if she knew something Seraphina didn't yet. Shrugging it off she followed the younger woman back down the steps.

"So, another thing I meant to ask. Are you and Erik, like-?"

"Related? Nein. We're very close though. I'd go so far as to think of him as my older brother. He may not show, that I know, but I think he cares for me as well."

"Think?"

"You can never tell with Erik. He's stone cold one moment and the next his eyes are all soft. Side effect, I suppose, of our history." said Seraphina. Raven glanced at her, and her sleeve covered arm.

"I can't imagine being part of the war like that. In the Holocaust." Raven stated quietly, as if she were afraid Seraphina would start crying. All she did though, was stiffen slightly.

"Sometimes neither can I. You know, I've never talked much about my past at all, since the war ended. It was never mentioned in the foster homes, and I've not been one to open up easily. You'd never catch that sort of revelation from Erik, he's never been much of a talker." said Seraphina. Raven would have asked another question, but unfortunately for her, they arrived in the living area, one with a television set, where the rest of the group had settled down with a meal of canned fruit and vegetables.

"-never eat these beans again after today." said Sean, as they walked in. He looked up, curls bouncing around his boyish face.

"What?" Raven asked.

"I hate canned beans! Never again will I eat these, even if I have no money and no food left in the pantry." said Sean again. His expression made Seraphina giggle a bit. She sat down on a lone chair across from Erik and Charles, who were playing chess again. Hank smiled lightly and handed her a plate of the supposedly horrid green beans, and canned meatloaf. She didn't find it too bad, but then again, she'd had worse.

Dinner went by with small talk. Nothing too close to the reason they were there, and also not much about themselves. It was mostly Alex, Sean, and Darwin sharing bad jokes and conversing about some of the shows on the television nowadays. Before long everyone had tiredly pulled themselves up to their bedrooms to sleep, leaving Charles and Seraphina to sleep. Erik volunteered to help, but she waved him off.

Skillfully carrying most of the plates, she carefully set each one down in the kitchen sink to be washed later.

"What did you want to talk about?" Charles asked. She smiled. Charles probably didn't even need telepathy to know this.

"The reason I feinted, at the base, it wasn't the fireball. Not entirely." Seraphina started bluntly. Charles raised a brow, hopping onto the solid wooden table behind him. She mimicked him and sat on the counter.

"How could a blast like that not have knocked you out instantly?" he questioned.

"My powers, I cushioned my fall as best I could. Angel was still responsible, but indirectly." Charles looked more concerned at her vague description. "I, could feel the intensity of her emotions Charles. I think you were right." Seraphina stared at his face, waiting for his reaction.

Instead she saw many. There were flashes of what looked like worry, curiosity, and a smugness at being right.

"We have a lot of work cut out for us." said Charles at last. He smiled widely, as if he had just found the best treasure in the world. Seraphina smiled back widely, being slightly worried he might not take it well.

How was that chapter you guys? I thought more fluff was needed to sow the seeds of a relationship. ANYways, I was going to ask you all something. I have the plan in my head to follow this through Days of Future Past and Apocalypse, maybe in three separate books. Would that be good? I think It would be more organized than some thousand-chapter story. Also, I wanted to know if anyone wanted or would read and alternate ending to First Class in my story, like a fix it all type fanfic. Comment you opinions! Thanks for reading! :)
