"What does everyone want?" I asked my eight children as we pulled up to the drive thru window.
"I want some french fries."
"Can I get a cheeseburger, please?"
"Get me a large sweet tea."
I ran my fingers through my hair trying to get all my children's orders right.
"Okay, let me get this straight. Phoebe wants french fries. Maddie wants a sweet tea and-"
"No, I wanted the sweet tea, Mom!"
"Wait, don't put cheese on that burger!"
"Shut up!" I shouted.
"Ma'am, can I take your order now?" The guy said through the drive thru speaker.
"Um, one minute please." I turned around to face my children,"Is everyone able to deal with eating a cheeseburger?"
"But I'm allergic to cheese."
"I'm a vegetarian."
"Do you need more time?" I heard coming from the speaker.
"Give me eight salads, two cheeseburgers, and nine waters." I said, aggravated with my children.
"Don't put cheese on my burger."
"THE BURGERS ARE FOR ME!!" I shouted at Mike.
"That will be $31.43. Thank you."
I groaned whenI heard the price and pulled up to the next window to pay. After that I was given the food and the drinks.
When I handed the children their waters, I heard Penny whimper in the back,"I didn't want ice in my water."
Taking my children to the drive thru is the second hardest thing, the first being my divorce with Max.
Max and I met in high school. We were on the figure skating team together. I didn't originally have my eye on him, but I liked his cousin. In all honesty, I hated him because he thought he was better at figure skating than I was.
After a series of unfortunate events, we got married. And the unfortunate events kept rolling. We found out that I was unable to have my own children. When Max and I found out I was pregnant for the first time, it turned out to be a miscarriage.
When we started adopting, we never intended on having sixteen children. But we ended up adopting seven of our sixteen children. Matt and Patrick were the first to be adopted. Soon after we started adopting, I found out I was pregnant with twins. When the twins were born, I made the mistake of allowing Max to name them. He insisted on naming them after them after their "awesome parents," as Max put it. He named them Max Jr. and Paige Jr.
A year later, we had the privilege to tell everyone we were expecting again. This time, I forbid Max from naming the baby. I chose the name Molly. Sometime after having Molly, we adopted Paris and Patricia.
During the next two years, we had two more babies. PJ came first and a year or so later, we had Maddie.
After realizing we had nine children, I was ready to stop. My decision caused issues between Max and I.
After talking about this topic, we decided to adopt again. We adopted Mike and Melissa at the same time. They happened to be the same age.
We adopted and had the next two children in the same year. Phoebe was born first then a few months later, we adopted Polly.
Finally, over the next four years, we had Penny, Mark, and Meloney. Penny was first, then two years later, we had Mark, then about a year later, we had Meloney.
A few months after Meloney was born, Max and I decided to get a divorce. Max wanted more children and I didn't. So, Max decided to be a jerk and cheat on me with a girl named Saje (pronounced Sage) with a J. He was mad that I wouldn't have more children so he turned to her.
"Speaking of the devil..." I thought to myself as I pulled into the gas station parking lot. Every week Max and I do a kid swap. The eight oldest kids stay as a bunch as well as the eight youngest.
I opened the van doors and let the young kids run to their father. Oh but of course, all the neighbors stood by Max's car showering him with compliments.
"Oh Max, your so gorgeous!"
"You have such amazing hair!"
"I can't understand why Paige would ever leave you."
Yes, why would I ever leave the great one and only Max? What ever will I do with myself now that I'm not with that dirty filthy liar?
Realizing that the older kids weren't with Max, I looked around trying to find them. That's when I saw my sixteen year old coming out of the gas station with my twelve year old, who just happened to have coffee.
"Max! What is PJ doing with coffee?!" I pushed the crowd of neighborhood girls out of the way.
"What? The kid stayed up late last night and he needed an extra boost." Max responded casually. "Did Saje give you the news?"
"He can't have caffeine!" I paused finally processing what he asked me. "Wait, what news?"
"We're expecting." He smiled and winked at Saje, who happened to be getting all the kids into the car.
"Can't you see I'm just dying of jealousy." I said sarcastically.
"No."
"Exactly."
With that, I said my goodbyes and headed to the car. As the kids loaded into the van I counted. when I finally got to PJ, I knocked the coffee out of his hand causing it to spill all over the ground.
"Hey!" He looked up at me, clearly annoyed.
"Your better off without it anyway."
