Hannah and I got up around noon time, had breakfast for lunch and talked more about Seth. It was easier to open up to her, I figured the worst part of telling her happened last night. She didn't ask many questions, I'm not totally sure if that's because she didn't have any or if she was just to afraid to ask me.
Either way, I told her everything from when Seth and I met to when I finally ended it for good. I could see how sad she was for me, she tried not to make it too obvious but eyes never lie.
At around three-thirty she decided it was time to hit the road, her drive home was only a couple hours long but she wanted to beat traffic.
"I love you Vanessa, thank you so much for talking to me about New York and Seth." She told me as she rolled her suitcase to the front door.
"Thank you for listening to me, I love you too." I smiled and hugged her.
"You can call me anytime okay? Day or night if you ever need to talk. I'm never too busy or tired for you." She reminded me as she hugged me back.
"Thank you." I whispered.
I watched her climb into her car from my balcony, I'm gonna miss her so much. Talking to her helped. I'm glad that's behind me and I can finally focus on making a new life here.
I put on some water to make tea and lit my mahogany scented candle. Being alone wasn't so bad, as much as I loved having Han here I'm excited to sit and read, just relax.
I walked over to my book shelf and grabbed a book I've read a hundred times, Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. It's one of my favorites and I could read it forever. I poured some tea, pulled out a cozy blanket and sat on my couch.
I got lost in my book and time flew by so fast, I started to get a little hungry. I haven't gone shopping for too much food yet, I pretty much am only stocked with eggs, coffee, and tea.
I got up, threw on some leggings and a cardigan, and headed to the grocery. I picked up the basics, butter, milk, bread. Once I stocked up on fruits, veggies, and snacks I decided I had enough and if I needed anything else I could always come back tomorrow.
Walking up to my apartment I ran into a guy in the hall.
"Need any help with those bags?" He asked smiling.
"Oh, that'd be great, thank you." I replied.
"I'm John by the way." He introduced himself as he grabbed some of my bags.
"I'm Vanessa, it's nice to meet you John." I smiled.
"I saw you move in, apartment 28 right?" He asked, still smiling.
"Yup that's me!" I answered walking up to my apartment door.
"I'm apartment 30." He informed me.
"Ah only one apartment away." I smiled as I unlocked my door.
He helped me carry up and put away all of my groceries.
"Thank you so much John." I told him.
"Yeah, no problem, neighbor." He smiled and shrugged.
"Thanks again John, it was very nice to meet you." I thanked him as I waked him out.
"Anytime, really. Goodnight Vanessa." He said before walking to his apartment.
He was cute, I hope all of my neighbors look like him.
I made some dinner, took a hot shower, then climbed into bed and watched The Office until I fell asleep.
I woke up sweating and out of breath. Another nightmare. I got up and opened up my bedroom window. I lived on the third story so I looked out over the town.
I turned on the lamp that sat on my bedside table and pulled out my diary, this time I sat at my desk to write.
Dear Diary,
The night terrors still hadn't completely vanished, but that doesn't mean they weren't getting better. Tonight I had a bad one, it felt so real. I remembered this one.
Every little detail.
He was yelling, I came home 10 minutes too late, so of course that means I was cheating on him. He always accused me of seeing other men.
He screamed and called me a slut. For a while he just pushed me around and pointed in my face.
The he opened another bottle of whiskey, took a swig straight from the bottle and slapped me.
"You'll never find anyone like me." He assured me.
"No one wants a dirty, unfaithful, tramp." He yelled before he took another drink.
I never understood why he'd say things like that, he knew I was to afraid to leave him so he definitely knew I'd be too scared to sneak around with someone else. Not that I would anyways.
The entire year we were together, he was the only one who cheated. Sometimes I'd meet his hookups at the door to the loft we shared on my way home from work.
The dream was far too vivid for me to want to go back to sleep. I guess I'll just lay here until the sun comes up.
See you again soon diary,
Vanessa.
