"Sometimes I swear they act like they're five," Alexis said, then turned to me. "So where should we start looking?"
Mona- As I hand out perfume samples, Chelsea sits at the table and looks through Andrew's phone and finds out more information about him. I eventually agreed to the snooping but only gave her a limit of five minutes. When her time was up and she satisfied with all the stuff she gathered she came over to me and told me all that she found.
"His name is Andrew Ray, he just moved here from Alabama with his mom a couple months back and he's in the same grade as us. And he is cute." She showed me a picture of him leaning against an old red truck that he seemed to be proud of. He had dark hair and blue eyes and a nice smile, and also an attitude of a boy who everyone thought was cute but didn't believe it himself.
"What no Social Security Number?" I asked sarcastically.
She shrugged her shoulders, "You only gave me five minutes. Now hush I'm not finished." she cleared her throat and continued her evaluation, "He likes swimming but is not on the team, he likes to hang out with his dog, Benji and he writes his own songs."
Really? "So that was him I heard earlier. He's good."
"You seem to think so, since you listened to all his songs, twice." She smirked at me and handed back Andrew's phone.
"Shut up, I just appreciate his music." I said as I put my headphones back on.
Before I pressed play on the phone, Chelsea said "Sure appreciate." She emphasized with air quotes, and went back to the table to rearrange the perfume bottles.
I rolled my eyes and went back to passing out samples.
Andrew- I put in my headphones to block out the crowd as I passed by the booths and looked for Mona. Alexis suggested that we split up and try to look for her, she sent me a picture that she copied from Mona's Facebook page and said that we can meet back up at the food trucks in 30 minutes. I tried my phone once more but I couldn't get a signal no matter where I went.
I went back to Mona's music and searched for a good song. Mona seemed to have some of the same songs I liked and had a nice variety of genres. That's when I remembered that my phone had all my songs that I was working on. No one has ever heard me sing before. I started to get a feeling in my stomach, this could be bad.
Mona-Looks like my mom's five minute break turned into an hour and a half shopping spree, the evidence was clear with the five bags she carried from the clothing booth. She slumped down at the table and sighed as if she ran a mile under a minute.
"So how did the booth go?" she asked after she caught her breathe.
I told her that it went well and handed her all the copies of the receipts and money that we earned while she was away. She counted the money and put some of it in the safe box and handed the rest to us.
"Well it seems that the crowd is thinning out a bit and I'm sure you girls are tired, so why don't we pack up and get out of here?"
I panicked and looked around in a desperate attempt to see if Andrew would show up but I couldn't see him anywhere.
Thinking fast I made an excuse that me and Chelsea wanted to look at a couple more booths that we missed.
My mother agreed but gave us 15 minutes to come back to help her pack up. I thanked her, grabbed Chelsea and hurried to find Andrew.
Andrew-I walked past a perfume booth that was just about to pack up and was almost too where the food trucks are. I was thinking that maybe Mona already left already. Thinking I would just ask Alexis if she could get my phone from Mona on Monday in class. I kept walking when I heard a voice call my name.
"Andrew?" I looked up to see a girl in a yellow dress and heels coming towards me. I looked to the picture on the phone and back at the girl with frizzy brown hair and brown eyes. "Mona?"
Mona-When Chelsea pointed out that Andrew was right behind us and was heading this way. I looked at him and realized that his picture did not do him justice. Then, I remembered that I didn't have my hoodie and sneakers on and I was in the middle of the parking lot in a dress and heels. When he said my name in a cool southern accent I just wanted to run and hide. But Chelsea didn't give me the chance when she pushed me towards him and I was walking to him before it was too late.
Andrew-I walked toward her and held out my hand. "Hi Mona it's nice to meet you."
She shook my hand and smiled shyly. "It's nice to meet you too."
"I think this belongs to you." I handed Mona her phone.
She laughed at my lame joke. "Thanks. And this just might be yours."
I smiled and thanked her as she handed me my phone while I complimented on her music.
"Thanks" she said "I like your music too, and the original songs you do are really good."
I thanked her again and confessed that she was the first person to hear my songs.
"Well if you ever want to preform I know this coffee shop that does open mike nights on Sundays."
I told her I might check it out. Then, she noticed my psych book in my bag and asked about it.
"Yeah," I said, "I was thinking of majoring in psychology when I get into college."
Her brown eyes brightened at my answer "Cool, I got something similar at the book sale, it might help me when I go into pre-law."
"Nice," I said and was about to ask her if she was taking Sociology class, when her phone rang.
She looked down and sighed "It's my mom. I have to go and help her pack everything up. I'll see you around school?" I nodded and she started to walk away.
I turned back to go meet Alexis a little dejected but hopeful when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and saw Mona standing there, this time looking nervous "We might struggle with putting some of the boxes in the car, would you like to give us a hand?"
