Chapter 1- HIDE and SEEK

Start from the beginning

He came back from his thoughts when finally that blonde girl turned and they could finally see her face.

"So that's..." Vanessa cued him.

"Ms. Stacy Waltz. Friend of the deceased, Alex Hale. Also his executive assistant and a close friend." Edward answered. His blue eyes fixed on Stacy. She was weak. Her whole body was shaking as she was trying not to burst into tears. He could see this clearly even from the distance. Edward had a bad urge to go and calm her. She was alone there. That staff girl was standing a distance away just wearing a sombre look. But not really breaking apart like Stacy.

A little wind had picked up in the night. A strand of her hair flying over her face. She kept trying to pull it back but it settled on playing on her pink cheek. Stacy snuggled into her black coat. Even her nose had turned red from the cold.

"She's kinda cute." Edward thought smiling at her but noticed a glare given to him from the corner of his eyes. He gulped. Uh oh! Did he say that out loud?

They waited a bit longer. Stacy crouched down putting a white lily on a grave, possibly belonging to Alex Hale.

Edward frowned looking down at his watch.

"I don't think he's coming here." Vanessa answered his confusion in a detached tone. Like she didn't expect any better from him.

"But...he's...I mean there were rumours of them being a couple and all. And now Mr. Stevens won't even attend her funeral?" Edward mused. Wow! What a jerk is he? And what's with this place? And time? None of this was making sense!

"Who's that?" Vanessa's question snapped him out of his thought. He followed her curious gaze that was settled on a muscly guy waiting far way outside the cemetery garden near his car. How did Edward know it was his car? Well, he was literally leaning carelessly with his hands folded on his chest against an Audi R8. No one does that unless that car is their own.

"That's Sean Evans. He was their security head for a while but was fired." Edward answered her taking pride over himself again. He did his research well.

"Then what business does he have here? Any relation to the deceased?" Vanessa asked her eyes still fixed on Sean.

"To Ms. Hale? No. I don't think so." His replied as he noticed Stacy walking out of the cemetery and suddenly halting in her pace as she noticed Sean standing in front of her. She was gaping at him in disbelief and as Sean took a step towards her, she traced a couple steps back.

"Woah! I don't think she was expecting him to be here. Nor did she like him being here." His gaze still stuck on Stacy who now had a torn look on her face. She now took a step towards Sean but again stopped. Like struggling whether or not she wanted to talk to him. Sean probably took a hint from that. This time Sean took several steps back leaving a wide space open for her to leave.

Stacy almost ran past him. Edward was pretty she didn't even gave him a second glance. Like too afraid to look at him. This was surely hurting Sean. He could see that on his face. What's this? Here's to adding more drama to the puzzle.

Soon Stacy drove off. Sean only glanced towards the cemetery once with a blank look and then drove off in his Audi too. While Mr. Stevens never even showed up.

While Edward was still confused why he didn't show up. He did although have a logical reasoning to it. They knew that Ms. Hale's death was still a silent matter. That was probably the reason why Mr. Kent didn't show up. His presence would've gathered the unwanted attention.

But this was the reasoning Vanessa didn't seem to be caring about. Edward could feel her biting her lip hard as her eyes burnt in cold anger. He groaned inwardly. He called for the security to assemble back as he himself ignited the engine of their car. There was no driver. She didn't like it. Edward was the only one she ever allowed to drive along with her. Or otherwise by herself. No other soul ever came into her proximity.
