As I lay there that night, I felt alone and forgotten. Like the world was being swiped out from below my feet. It was raining hard then, but the sound still couldn't drown out the music from the room across the hall. That terrible music. It was unlike any other melodic verse, for the tears it brought to my eyes were not those of a smile, but rather tears of pure agony. My mom yelled over and over, not matching the screams of my father. My family was being torn apart right In front of me, but all I could do was sit and watch. I was useless then. Only going through the days with a blank stare, eventually crying myself to sleep. Alas, my world was about to change drastically.
I looked around the room with puffy eyes and a red nose. I could have sworn that I heard a knock... Of course, it could just as easily have been something from my parents room, where they played another measure of their argument.
Another knock, and it was definitely close. No mistaking this one as something from my parents room.
I slowly got up from my bed, and began to walk around the room. Everything was quiet... Strange... Nothing mysteriously moved or made a knocking sound. Maybe it was just my Imagin...
Knock knock
Nope! Either I was going crazy, or something was trying to get my attention. Upon closer inspection around he room, I noticed a shadow behind my window. Grabbing a book next to me, I inched toward the window. "Wh-who is there?" I asked.
The figure moved, not in response to my question, but rather because of... The storm! Someone or something was out in the rain watching me. By that time, I would have usually turned around and left the window, but today was quite exceptional. I rushed to open the window and get a peek at my visitor. They glanced my way...
Our eyes locked, and I knew instantly that I could trust this person. She had golden hair and perfect, blue eyes. She was also soaked to the bone. Just looking at her Meade me feel insecure about my own sloppy appearance.
The past two tears had been hard on my family, and time and money was starting to dwindle lower and lower. I started to not care about myself, so all my peers saw was a walking corpse. Before this, I had been the talk of the school. One of those urban legends that people would talk about. I felt pure and loved! Everyone in my school knew my name, and everyone in my town treated me like a goddess... But, just because I was a sight for sore eyes, it doesn't mean that I have it completely easy too. Money had always been a problem, so I started helping out by working part time for a drug dealer that I found and contacted through the Internet. I kept my social life and my personal life separated where they belonged... But when a classmate of mine saw me coming home from work one day, he threatened me. He said that if I didn't do what he said, then he would tell the whole school, and then I would get expelled. Only taking it as empty words at first, I told him that he could do whatever he wanted, and that I didn't care what he did. Likewise, he ran off cursing me and my family. I thought that I had won, but the next day, I went to school and was ignored by everyone. When word of my after school life reached the school staff, I was called out to the principals office. He told me that if I wanted to stay in school here, that I had to quit my job, and I might be able to stay. He eyed my dads wallet, and my dad was forced to pay off the principal. I was able to stay in school, but I was ridiculed by the other students and teachers... Not to mention the giant pile of debt that my family dug itself into. Ever since, I just stopped caring.
Quickly, I unlatched the window and let my mysterious visitor inside.
