The burning sun beat down on the Black Oak, Basswood and Elk trees that lined the uneven, mountainous trails of West Virginia. She could remember a safer timewhen she would wander these woods. Back when she could still hear the birds chirp, when she could dip her feet into the running stream and relax on a summer day; carefree from the world's troubles.

"God what I wouldn't give for an ice cold soda right now. Just one sip even, it would make this nightmare almost worth living in." She could almost taste the refreshing, sweet liquid, the cold can pressing against her chapped lips.

"You're telling me. It's been three months since the initial outbreak. Our old lives are far enough behind us, unless you believe Dr. Whittaker and his rants about Huntington having the cure," Kelly stepped up quietly next to Georgiana.

Georgiana nodded in agreement, "Come on, better get moving if we wanna stay safe." She learned the hard way that you couldn't just hide from them. A bullet to the head was the only way to put them down for good. Right between their bloodshot, rotting, lifeless eyes.

"Well, My daddy used to take me fishing not too far up from here. Great place to stop for the night. There's even a store we can scope out if isn't overrun by Creepers."

At the sight of the store, Georgiana picked up her pace, each step closer to the fresh snap of a soda top being opened and the delightful carbonated beverage that was held inside. She had been so focused on her goal that she hadn't heard the unnatural groan, or the snap of the twig as a Creeper stumbled toward her. It's stench permeating in the West Virginian heat.

It's yellowed teeth sank into the soft pink flesh of her wrist, latching on as tight as it could, ready to devour her. A scream trapped right in her lungs as realization hit; it's angry eyes, devoid of anything other than hunger, met hers.

As shot rang out and then she heard the sickening sound of metal meeting skull, it's lifeless form sank down to the forest's damp floor. She didn't have long left to live, twenty-four hours at most.

"We've got to get you to Huntington Georgie." Kelly could only glare at the ugly wound, already puffing up from the infection.

"No Kel, I didn't come all this way for nothing. I'm getting my damn soda."
