Han-geul, or the Korean alphabet, is composed of forty letters. Twenty-one of which are vowels, and the remaining nineteen are consonants.

CONSONANTS:

ㅂ -- b (when it is placed before a vowel) and p (when it is placed after a vowel)

ㅈ -- j

ㄷ -- d (when it is placed before a vowel) and t (when it is placed after a vowel)

ㄱ -- g (when it is placed before a vowel) and k (when it is placed after a vowel)

ㅁ -- m

ㄴ -- n

ㅇ -- ng (it doesn't have sound when placed before a vowel. For example: 아 -- pronounced as "a")

ㄹ -- r (when it is placed before a vowel) and l (when it is placed after a vowel)

ㅎ -- h

ㅅ -- s

ㅋ -- k

ㅌ -- t

ㅊ -- ch

ㅍ -- p

ㅃ -- pp

ㅉ -- jj

ㄸ -- dd

ㄲ -- gg

ㅆ -- ss

VOWELS:

ㅛ -- yo

ㅕ -- yeo

ㅑ -- ya

ㅐ -- ae

ㅔ -- e

ㅗ -- o

ㅓ -- eo

ㅏ -- a

ㅣ -- i

ㅠ -- yu

ㅜ -- u

ㅡ -- eu

ㅒ -- yae

ㅖ -- ye

ㅢ -- ui

In Han-geul, all symbols are written and read from top to bottom and from left to right.
