The clouds were gray. Candace pulled her sweater tighter around herself to be protected from the cold wind blowing against her. She only needed to walk a few more blocks before she would be home.  Her eyes were focused on the tiles of the pavement and her ears were focusing on the music being emitted from her headphones.  She softly bobbed her head to the familiar tunes being pumped into it. She enjoyed listening to music. It made her forget about all the horrible things happening around for even if it was just for a bit. She would forget about how she had completely flunked her history exam or how her coach had yelled at her during practice because she hadn't swam fast enough. She would also forget how horrible she would be feeling at that very moment and just feel happy. It was amazing what music could do to Candace.  As her eyes scanned over the dirty tiles of the pavement, something caught her eye. It appeared to be a small puddle of a substance that Candace couldn't immediately  identify. She stopped walking and crouched down to further investigate the strange substance on the pavement. Upon a closer glance, the substance appeared to look like blood. But it couldn't be blood, right? Why would there be a puddle of blood on the pavement in the middle of town?

Candace's stomach dropped. She looked around her to see if she could spot anyone or more specifically, if she could spot more blood. Her eyes locked on what looked like another puddle and Candace couldn't help but walk to where she saw the second puddle. This one looked like it had been fresher than the first one. Candace felt her heart starting to race, music that was blasting into her head long forgotten. Why was she finding blood randomly on the street? Her mind was screaming at her to just let it go and just go home but she couldn't manage to make herself actually let go it. She felt too involved. She had to find out who this blood belonged to. What if that person needed her help? She had to find them.

Without thinking about it, Candace's feet moved her to find more puddles, each one fresher than the one before. The more puddles she found, the faster her heart would beat in her chest. Before Candace knew it, she was almost in front of her own house. She glanced at her frontdoor and felt her stomach knot as she spotted the bloody doorknob. She suddenly didn't want to find the person who's blood she was finding. But as if she was under some sort of spell, she put her hand on the sticky doorknob and turned it, opening the door.

Her eyes scanned the room and her stomach dropped. Why was her living room covered in blood? She could hear her heart loudly beating in her chest as she took a few more steps into the room.  Nothing really seemed to look out of place, other than the fact that basically everything was covered in blood. She took a few more steps to examen the house a bit more.

There was also blood on the stairs leading to the bedrooms. With heart pounding loudly in her chest, she walked up the stairs. As she turned the corner into her parents room, she felt as if her heart had stopped beating. She couldn't believe her eyes. Her mother's body layed lifelessly on the bed while her father's body was slumped back into her mother's reading chair.

Candace could feel her stomach turn. She was going to throw up. She clutched her stomach and quickly made her way to the master bathroom before emptying her stomach in the toiletbowl. As she put her head back up to catch her breath, she noticed something in the mirror. There was something written on the wall of her parent's bedroom. She couldn't read what it said but did realise that it was most definitely written in blood.

She cleansed her mouth before going to see what was written on the wall. As she realised what a horrible person had written on her parent's bedroom wall, her vision started going black. Her head suddenly hurt. She brought her hand up to her head and felt something liquid. When she brought her hand back, she had just enough time to realise that it was red of color before she collapsed onto the floor.

Right before losing her contiousness she could faintly see someone hovering above her and whispering the words; "You should have been more careful, Candace. Now you'll be next"
