Chapter 7

"Grandma?"

"Yes baby?" Cookie answered Lola, cuddling Lola in her arms with her bear.

"Where's daddy?" Lola played with her grandmother's necklace.

Lucious sighed and sat next to Cookie and Lola. He ruffled Lola's hair. "Your daddy is fine. He's handling business like you gots to handle yours."

Lola sat up. "What business I got grandpa?"

Lucious handed her the story book in his hands. "Right there little Missy." He said as he began to tickle her.

Lola erupted in giggles as her grandparents tickled her. 

The fun stopped as Lucious' cellphone rang.

Lucious sighed as he answered the phone. "Hello?"

"Hello? Lucious? This is Dr. Shahani here with your personal doctor Dr. Martin." a female voice said over the line.

Lucious closed his eyes. "Look Doc, I've done all the recommendations you told me to. If it's bad news, I don't want to hear it now."

Dr. Shahani hesitated over the phone. "It's not about you sir. It's about your son, Jamal."

Lucious heart dropped.

"Becky! I want my family, everyone of them at Jamal's apartment. Make it snappy. No excuses. It's an emergency family meeting." Lucious rushed out of Empire into the limo, with a waiting Lola and Cookie.

"Hey, driver. Make it fast. This is an emergency." Cookie snapped.

The driver started driving.

"Grandpa, is Daddy going with mommy?" Lola's lips quivered.

"No honey." Cookie hugged her tight. "Hush with that type of talk."

Lucious opened the door the instant the limo stopped. "We're here. Let's go."

The trio rushed into the apartment, rushing to the elevator. Cookie slammed the elevator button with her palm a couple of times. "Why is this damn thing taking so long?"

When the elevator finally opened, Cookie, holding Lola's hand,rushed in. "Lucious! Quit taking all damn day." She tapped the level to Jamal's penthouse impatiently. "Everything's so damn slow around here."

Lucious exhaled roughly. "Calm down Cooks..."

Cookie turned on him. "Calm down? Calm down? Lucious this is all your fault! From the beef between you and Beretti to him kidnapping Cori. This is all your damn-"

The elevator opened and everyone saw one of the nurses bandage Jamal's shoulder and Green T's wrist. 

"Oh my gosh Mal!" Cookie rushed to jug and kiss Jamal. She hugged hum tightly, avoiding his wounds.

"Daddy! Daddy! I knew you'd come back for me!" Lola ran in his arms. 

Jamal ignored the pain as he swung his baby girl up in his arms. He hugged his mother tight. "I'm alright Ma."

Jamal looked at his father, who smiled at him slightly and hugged him tight before knocking him upside the head. "What the hell do you think you was doing without informing me?"

Jamal shrugged at Lucious with his one good shoulder. "I don't know. I had to make a decision on my own. I'm supposed to protect the Empire and the family right? That's what I was doing."

Lucious smiled at him. "Damn straight man."

Jamal hugged Hakeem, Andre, and Rhonda when they came in, they all sat down as Jamal introduced Green T to them and they all made small chat.

Lola tugged on her father's sleeve. "Daddy, where's Cori?"

Jamal smiled. "I was hoping you were going to ask that." Jamal lifted Lola up and beckoned for the rest to follow him. In his bedroom, Cori slept peacefully, her hands protecting her stomach.

"Is she ok?" Cookie whispered, with happy tears in her eyes.

Jamal nodded."She's fine. So is the baby. Doc said she just needs rest."

Finally everyone was together. Happy again, if only for a short time. But this was a family. The Lyon family.
