"E, where were you?"
"Hmm...?"
"Last night. Where'd you go?"
"Oh, um, I saw..." she tilted her head to the side, toward where her ex Jero's locker is. Or was. He graduated last year. "Someone. Along the way."
I sucked in a breath and nodded. "Okay. Yeah." I stuck my hand into my back pocket and dug around until I pulled out a piece of paper. "Anyway, I was wondering... well... my family is going camping with some coworkers, and... you know--" she coughed. "Would you, um, like to--"
She grabbed the paper out of my hands, said "I'd love to c-come," and walked off.
I was left smiling like a doofus.
