Looking back, my life was nice growing up. I had a loving mother and father, later I had a little sister that I loved. I had good friends who were always at my side. School was never hard for me and I was amazing at sports. Everything seemed perfect until that fateful summer...
The sea breeze was catching the skirt of my dress and causing my long brown curls to whip across my face. I was standing on the deck of the boat holding on to the railing, overlooking the ocean. At that moment I was looking at the Atlantic in its prime season of summer. All of the sudden I felt a hand on the back of my shoulder and I turned with a great spin, to see my best friend laughing. "What are you laughing at Em?" I said with a smile. "How am I not going to laugh you looked like you were going to punch me!" She replied. "Haha funny, So what's up?" I said. "Haven't you heard the news?" Em asked. "What news?" I replied with a quizzical voice. "There's a new family moving in town and I've heard that they're suppose to be the hottest people around!" Em said with a grin. "A family moving into our small town?" I said with complete doubt. "For the millionth time, yes, this huge, rich family is moving into town!" Em replied with glee. "Of course, you would know that, you are always up to date on our local gossip." I said annoyed.
Em was always into gossip and she was always with the popular crowd. She just seem fit for that and I hate it. Either way I still loved her to pieces besides being my neighbor, she and I grew up together. "So you ready for our first day as Seniors?" Em yelled with delight. "Ah yes, Senior year the highlight of my life." I said sarcastically while rolling my eyes. "Oh Mariana, lighten up a bit, Senior year is going to be the best." "We'll go to lots of parties, we'll finally not be single, and most importantly we'll be the big one eight!" Em said trying to contain herself. "I don't know Em, I'm just not feeling the whole vibe, I just don't feel right."I said sincerely. "Well you're probably sea sick like I am or you're just not ready to let go of your family." Em said her hazel eyes sparkling in the sunset. "Neither, I just have a strange feeling about things, that's just it, a hunch." I said turning to face her. My hunches always came true no matter what which was in my ironic opinion the least strangest thing in my life. Emma knew this and she became quite worried. "Another one, oh Mariana please don't curse me with your witch magic, I just got an invite." She said trying to cheer me up. "It'll be fine Em, I'm just ready to go to bed." I said yawning. "Of course, your always tired and doing your homework instead of playing with me." My little sister, London said. "By the way, our momster wants to see you and she looks really mad." She told me with a cheeky grin. I looked at Emma and she motioned me forward, looking at my mom. I then nodded to my sister who was spinning around my mother whom looked at me and smiled.
"Mariana, you know that Senior year is coming up and well..." My mom started. My mother had long dirty blond hair and honey brown eyes. She was in her late thirties and was aging with grace. My mom was strict yet laid back and everyone loved her. "I know mom, you're going to miss me and you want me to go to college and get a degree." I said. "Oh Mariana, you have such a bleak view on things, I was going to tell you that I want you to have a fun time, make some memories, do unexpected things, and foremost keep up your good work." My mother said while sniffling her nose. "Your mother is right Mariana, you should make the most of your senior year and as you teenagers say it YOLO!" My father said with a quirky voice. "Oh, Mr. Brooks please do not do that ever again, I think the Internet just died." Em said with a grimace. I smiled looking out to the docks as we were beginning to dock our own ship. I had always loved our sailboat, the Athenian, and most of all I just loved the beach and the ocean/sea. I remembered my father had bought the ship when I was 11 and the first time we took her out, my sister throw up in it. "Ah yes, Emma, I will make note of that so next time you won't kill me." My dad said with smile. "Well it seems that we docked our ship I should probably get all our stuff." He said as he got up and kissed my mother on her forehead. "Ewww, gross dad." My little sister said holding out her tongue. "Well, I believe your sister is soon due to get a kiss like that, my niece is too pretty to be an old maid." My uncle said as he put the dock bridge down. "Don't remind me." My father replied helping my mother get off. "Can you all stop trying to pair me up with someone, I'm perfectly single and I hope Cupid never hits me with his stupid arrow." I yelled at the top of my lungs. "Geez, Mariana now your going to make ole Cupid mad, now you'll have many lovers." Em said with a smirk. "Ugh, can we just go home now, I'm tired." I said as I got off the boat. My mother shot me a motherly glare and was about to say something as a lightning bolt struck in the horizon. "Yeah, I should probably go home to if not my folks will get worried." Emma said. "Well, we better getting going too, we all have to get up early and I do not want to get stuck in a storm, goodbye Miss Parker." My mother said. "Well, see you at school tomorrow Em." I said trying to sound cheerful. "See ya." Emma said as she walked away. I turned and waved goodbye to her as it started to pour.
