*Claire's P.O.V*

Don't get me wrong, I love it here. I absolutely love my roommates and I couldn't be more normal. Well. That is if you ignore the fact that I know absolutely nothing on myself other than my name and that I have very limited knowledge about civilian life. And now that Jessie and Hanna know I have no idea how things are going to be like around here. Our last dinner was basically them interrogating me. . .

"So what do you remember?" Hanna asked.
I shook my head and shrugged, "Not a whole lot actually. Last time hydra wiped me they didn't brief me up on anything. All I remember is how to fight and all I know is how to . . . " I trailed off when I realized that I wasn't going to say the most pleasant thing. Jessie perked up, "All you know is what?" I gulped and took in a deep breath, "All I know is how to kill." Both of the women stared at me. "Look, I don't remember anything before that. I have no idea what Hydra really does other than destroy everything good. They erased me and threw me in a dirty cell with a bad attitude."
"Well," started Hanna, "What about that man? The Winter soldier you told us about. Doesn't he ring a bell?" I pinched the bridge of my nose, "I know he's a good man. I know he was in the same situation as I was only he's probably getting the shit beat out of him because he let me out. Out of common sense we'd probably be paired together on missions but that's all I have on him. I don't even know his name."
"Then how did he know yours?" Jessie asked me. "I have no idea but I have to get him out. I owe him that much." She chuckled dryly, "How are you gonna do that?"

. . . And that was how it went. Thinking about the Winter Soldier always leaves me a pang of guilt. Every second I'm enjoying my freedom is a second that he's locked in hell. I can't live with myself knowing that he's not okay. Jessie was right though. I didn't have any idea how I was going to get him out.

A Week Later

I was in the kitchen pouring myself a glass of water while the other two were watching something on tv.
"Billionaire Tony Stark is to . . . " said the voice on the screen. All of a sudden I couldn't feel the cup in my hands anymore and I heard it shatter on the floor.

*~~flashback~~*

Earlier in my Life

"Agent Doyle, I'd like you to meet Howard Stark. One of our finest scientists and engineers of our time. He'll be working with the government to try and help us win this damn war already," said a man who was older than myself.
Howard shook my hand eagerly then planted a kiss on it, openly flirting with me, "Believe me, the pleasure is all mine Ms. Doyle. If all the people looked as pretty as you I'd have come here a lot sooner."

I took my hand back and rolled my eyes. "Mr. Stark, thank you but I was just passing through to talk to someone far more important than you." So I moved past the two men smirking and knowing that I had put a dent in the man's rather large ego. I made my way to a blonde woman behind a desk.
"Jesus you got Barnes and Stark chasin' after your tail, " she said.

"Hello?!" I felt fingers snap in front of my face. Blinking a couple of times I saw Jessie snapping and shaking me by the shoulders while Hanna was cleaning up the mess of broken glass on the floor. I moved past them and sat in front of the TV.
"What the hell?" I heard Jessie say behind me. "Claire, are you alright?" Hannah sweet voice asked.

I only stared at the television. Tony Stark's face was plastered on it. He resembled his father I could see. Something deep inside of me told me that I knew Howard from more than just that lame flirting attempt but I couldn't place my finger on it.

"I remember him," I said sadly. They stayed quiet. "Howard. I knew Howard Stark." Hanna sat next to me,"What do you mean? Like you were family friends. Are you remembering something?" I felt the couch dip to my other side which meant that Jes had sat there as well. "So what? You were preschool buddies with Tony and you remember his dad?" She said. I shook my head at both of their answers.
"No, no, no. I knew him before Tony was even a thought. I knew Howard during the war."
Jessie's mouth hung open and Hanna looked puzzled. "The War? As in the Second World War?" I nodded. "B-but," Jessie started, "that's impossible. You'd have to be like 90 years old!" I looked at my hands, "I know that they would put me in a sleeping state every once in a while at hydra. It would be cold. So damn cold. I barely remember it, but it's there. I bet that's how I'm still alive."
"A 90 year old in a 27 year olds body! You are just full of surprises aren't you!" Jes yelled as she got up and walked to her room.

Hanna put a hand on my shoulder, "Hey at least you are remembering things now. One step at a time right?" I smiled and nodded. "Yea," I responded. "It seems like my steps are too big to take sometimes."
"Don't worry about that. You're doing just fine. I bet if your Winter Soldier friend saw you now he'd be really proud of how much you've changed since that place."
I dropped my head on my hands when she mentioned him, "Oh god Hanna what am I gonna do?" "What do you mean?" she asked. I sighed,  "I have to get him out. I can't continue to leave him alone in there." She ran her hand through her hair,"How are you gonna get him though?"
I sat up and breathed in, "I don't know. But the sooner the better."
