"Can we play in the mud tomorrow?" Little seven year old Maya scribbled down in her sketchbook that never held any artwork. Just words arranged in conversational tone. She held her sketchbook to her window so her neighbour could read it.
"I hope so". Eight year old Jesse scribbled back.
Jesse and Maya lived in a newly build complex. The builder had the idea of perfect symmetry in the houses. All kitchens were designed the same and every house had the same amount of bedrooms, bathrooms, sinks and windows.
Jesse and Maya had the lucky advantage to life, they had each other. To be more clear they had each others windows four feet away from each other. Their windows lined up perfectly, perfect for their first love story.
":)" Maya scribbled. Jesse smiled.
"I love you Maya, I always will." Jesse revealed to Maya. Little kids never knew how powerful those words were anyway. "I love you" is only a few words they hear from their parents on a regular basis. Little kids don't know the connection it brings to two people. But how could they? You can't teach a child to love. But you can teach them to be loved, it's what our parents do for us. Children have to learn for themselves. One must experience heartbreak before they feel real love.
"I love you too Jesse" Maya scribbled.

"Maya, dinners ready!" Maya's mum called from the stairs. Maya's tight brown curls spun around and looked at the door.
"Awwwww..." She groaned to herself. "Okay!!"
"Dinner..." She spelt out in big pink letters.
"Oh... I'll miss you." He drew in think blue letters.
"I'll miss you too Jesse. Tomorrow, we will make better mud-cakes!"
"Deal, I love you."
"I love you too, bye bye!" She spelt out and held her sketchbook up to her full length mirror for Jesse to see. They smiled at eachother, not knowing what lies ahead of them in their teenage years. How could they? Kids never know what they'll become, what they'll do and who they'll become.
She ran off downstairs to get the seat next to her family's dog first.
Jesse blinked his grey blue-green eyes and tossed his sketchbook under his bed.
"Good night, Maya." He whispered to himself.
