"Nadia Amelia Williams! Hurry up, or else the plane is leaving without you!" I quickly finish packing my suitcase before my mom worries herself to death. "Don't worry, Mom!" I shout down the stairs, "the plane doesn't leave for another 3 hours!" I can barely see her rolling her eyes as I run to the awaiting car. Resting one hand on my head and the other on the blue SUV I try to remember if I packed everything. "Are you ready to go?" My dad says while shoving his own suitcase in. I nod my head, filled with excitement. "I think so." I hop into the back, gazing out the window.

My tan house stares back at me. The trees lining along my property seem to be waving at me, a final goodbye. I smile to myself as I look in the windows to see Mom scrambling to finish packing her things in the living room. My eyes travel upwards and land on my bedroom window. Inside, I can almost see my lavander colored bed and lime green dresser. I desperately hope our neighbor, Mr. Rogers, will keep to his promise and make sure my cat, Scissors, doesn't starve to death. The black cat has been in this family ever since it was a kitten, and I was a little girl. Thus, the name 'Scissors'. It was the first object I saw after I noticed the kitten.

Dad chuckles jumping into the car. I attempt to contain my laughter at the sight of him. When Dad laughs or giggles or chuckles, his ENTIRE belly does this weird jiggle. Then his face turns red and he grasps the air as if he was trying to reach something. That's one thing I'm glad I didn't inherited from him. I received his intelligent looking brown-amber eyes, sharp wits, and straight nose. Everything else is my mom. Long, wavy, dark hazelnut colored hair, perfect hourglass figure, and short height. Being only 5' 4", I considered myself short even though Mom is 5' 2". I have Dad to thank for giving me the height boost since he is 5' 11".

I sigh happily as Dad pulls the car out of our driveway. I'm  thrilled to finally get out of the country to South America. It's not that I hate living in Portland, Maine, but I'm glad to leave the familiar place. Brazil was always a place I wanted to visit, and when my parents surprised me with a trip for my 18th birthday, I immediately chose it. I love animals so going to the Amazon rain forest was a must see. Plus, I couldn't wait to explore calm, peaceful streets, unlike Portland.

"We're here!" Mom announces with a huge smile. "Wow..." I breath. The airport looked a little intimidating from the car, but there was no way I was going to let it stop me from going to my dream vacation. The constant motion of people walking in and out made my introvert side panic. I wondered if it was possible to find our plane in such a huge building.

"Well, Nadi, are you coming or not?" I hear Dad say. I look around suddenly confused. Finally finding my parents, I notice they already have their bags and are waiting outside. I jump out, grab my suitcase and race for my parents, who started walking away. I catch a glimpse of them strolling into the taunting building. The doors seem to dare me to enter. I gather what courage I have and run in. "Mom! Dad!" I shout upon entering the airport. People walking past look at me as if I were some sort of alien who just declared war on planet Earth.

"Sweetheart! We're over here!" I speed towards my blushing mom as Dad continues walking. "This way to our plane." Dad shouts, taking charge. I nod in reply, speed walking to keep up with Dad's long strides. I glance around the building, spotting many people wearing typical tourist clothes. Hawaiian shirts and khakis make me stare as my family and I walk past.

Dad takes a detour and leads us to security, where we have to take off any metal and walk through this strange door frame. After grabbing our things again, Dad takes off like a rocket, leaving Mom and me in the dust. Thankfully, it's near impossible to lose Dad when he's so tall. "Ah! Here we are!" Dad finally says, clearly impressed with his own navigation skills.

"Are you the Williams' family?" I turn around to find a short but muscular man addressing me. "Uh, yes?" I state it like it's a question and Dad quickly jumps in to talk with the man. I find myself scanning the crowds for more strangely dressed people when my eyes find a particular person. It's a tall man, I'm guessing not much older than myself, wearing a light blue tank top and shorts. My eyes roam over his body to find an athletic build. Looking above his shoulders I see he has extremely dark brown hair, cut in what I could only describe as 'trendy' and an aquiline nose. I blush slightly when he looks up in my direction.

Quickly, I turn back to my family and who I suppose is the pilot. "My plane is indestructible!" The man boasts. I roll my eyes and search to find the guy again. "Oh! And here is my son now, Xavier!" I glanced back at the pilot only to gasp. There, only inches away from me, was the guy from before. Up close, I could tell he had hazel eyes and was at least 5' 9". "Hello, Xavier. It's so nice to meet you!" Mom politely greeted, sticking out her hand.

I could tell already Xavier was the kind of person who was so uncomfortable being tall around people shorter than him so he slouched. He flashed a crooked smile and briefly shook Mom's hand. "My Xavier can fly any plane almost as good as I can!" The pilot smiles proudly. "This way to the plane," the pilot practically yells in his loud voice. When I sneak a look at Xavier, I find that he's already staring at me. Before he can see my blush, I rush over to my parents. I take a deep breath before entering the plane. I never liked flying but I had to do this.

I carefully enter, holding my breath. I sigh out loud when I take a seat across from my parents. I immediately buckle in, praying to whatever god is out there that I'll be okay. "And...take-off is good to go!" The pilot speaks over the loud speaker in the private plane.

Here goes nothing.
