The Night Terror

Preface

We've all been acquainted with that horrible monster that hides behind the doors of your closet, watching you as you drift into a deep slumber, waiting to snatch you away from everyone and anything you've ever known...

We've all felt the shiver that'd run up your spine as you lay flat on your back, clutching the bed sheets over your head- a force field that would separate you and the monster that lay in exactly the same position as you underneath the framework of your bed- except in hunger and anticipation, whilst yours cowering away from the hands that were climbing up towards your exposed feet.

We've all felt the dropping of our stomach, as we heard the scraping of the wooden closet door squeak as it'd opened. Your only comfort being your stuffed animal and worn out blankie. The only source of protection, a little night light that you could quickly whip out into the pitch black darkness, ready to catch the monster that was making the floor creak as it crept out of the closet...

Everyone's able to recall those frightful moments in the evening as a young child. Yet all our lives we've been made to believe it was our imaginations, a bad dream. Told it was our minds playing tricks on us- That the monsters didnt really exist... that they were only in the story books....

Well, sorry to break it to you my friend- but it's come to light that through heavy research, everything in our imagination is based upon the experiences we've had, and sights we've seen. Meaning that our minds cannot conjure up a new looking face, and that it is likely that whatever we are able to imagine is culled from the reservoir of visual experiences amassed through life.

In other words, or to put into context; our imaginations couldn't have come up with those monsters all by themselves...

And say, if our parents were right- that all monsters in our minds really were, from the story books...

....Where'd the monsters in the story books come from?
