Chapter Twenty: A Hard Blow

"What!?"

"Why?"

"What happened!?"

I had questions being thrown at me left and right at this moment and I didn't know the answers to any of them. "I don't know, he just called it off I guess..." I honestly didn't know how to answer their questions. How could I when I myself don't know? Lately I've been asking so many questions but have got little to no answers. I'm done always being the one to be left in the dark about everything.

"Okay let's change the subject!" Aliyah exclaimed, noticing my discomfort about the subject. Thank Allah!

When the girls left I decided to go downstairs and get something to eat. The moment I did I started to regret it because not only was Isa there but so was Adam. Thank God I had my scarf on my head this time or else there would've been big trouble. Once they saw me they started to get quiet which annoyed me. "Don't worry I'm only grabbing a water bottle then I'm leaving." I said as I walked passed them and towards the fridge.

"What's this?" Isa asked as he held up my phone, there was a text message sent to me. I grabbed my phone from him and read the message.

Unknown: I know what your brother and his friends are up to and if you care for them do exactly as I say.

"How long has this person been texting you?" Now it was Adam's turn to question me. I just continued to stare at the text trying to understand what exactly this person meant by it. If you care about them do exactly as I say...That part wouldn't stop ringing in my ears. Was that supposed to be a threat? "What's going on Zam?" My brother added while staring me down as if I just committed a crime.

"Nothing." I tried to walk away but he prevented me by blocking my way. To say I felt irritated would be an understatement. He doesn't tell me anything and now he's expecting me to spill my guts to him? Yeah right. "Get out of my way Isa." I tried to remain calm but it was hard. "Answer the god damn question!" He shouted, making me jump a little from his sudden outburst.

"Why?" I challenged him. "Just like you won't tell me anything why do I have to tell you!? Huh!?" I said as I crossed my arms over my chest. "He's just trying to protect you." Adam chimed in. I turned to him with fire in my eyes. Who does he think he is?

"Protect me? Last time I checked I'm not a baby that needs protecting! And you shouldn't even be talking, you're just like him. Why did you break off the bet? Huh? Please answer that and once you do I will gladly answer any questions you guys throw my way." I replied, my voice raising an octave. They were both quiet and didn't answer my question. "See? Now if you don't mind, I'm leaving." I walked up stairs and locked my door. I jumped on my bed and laid there like that. How the hell does my brother expect me to be honest with him when he's hiding things and keeping secrets?

I'm just so sick and tired of all of this. Don't think of them, I told myself. Ya that's the best thing to do right now.

"Thank you for watching the bakery Habibti. I will be back in an hour or two." Grams said as she grabbed her bag and left. I promised her that I'd watch the bakery while she leaves to go run some errands. For the rest of the week I couldn't stop thinking about the text messages I received a couple of days ago. This is definitely not a prank anymore, that's for sure. I just can't help but wonder what that person wants from me. Are they trying to help?
