~ MYRTLE TURTLE ~

Down by the pond and beside the willow tree

Lived Myrtle Turtle and little turtles three.

Myrtle Turtle was as happy as could be.

She loved her three turtles, her dear family.

Myrtle and her babies would snooze on the log,

The one that washed down and was stuck in the bog.

Bossy Burt Bullfrog also shared the old log.

He was not her best neighbor and liked his grog.

Myrtle Turtle and Burt did not get along.

The frog annoyed Myrtle by croaking his song

Which disturbed her babies since it lasted long.

Burt Bullfrog did not care, thought nothing was wrong.

His croaking was loud in the light of the moon.

Wakened the hatchlings in the nest of the loon.

Her hungry little chicks all began to croon.

She swiped Burt's smallest tadpole, changing his tune.

However, Burt did not learn from this lesson.

He was so stubborn, unwilling to reason.

In fact, he gave his neighbors the impression

That he was horny, regardless of season.

He would croon forever in the bright moonlight.

He thought he was handsome but, Ugh! What a sight!

No tune of his would ever attract a mate.

The loon tried so hard to arrange a blind date.

She hoped Burt Bullfrog might just vacate the log

But soon, by chance, along came a vicious dog.

That dog did not like the horrible croaking.

He pounced on Burt and gave him a good soaking.

Clutching tightly with his paws he clawed and clawed

And, with razor sharp teeth, he gnawed and he gnawed

Right through the center of old Burt Bullfrog's spine.

Then he proceeded to lick his lips and dine.

Myrtle Turtle lived peacefully after that,

Always remembering where the bullfrog sat.

Once again she was as happy as could be

Raising her three turtles, her dear family.
