You Had me at Hello

"Deep breathes May, deep breathes. You shouldn't be scared. You know Eva is going remember, so you won't be alone, okay?" Says my mother trying her best to reassure me, but nothing was working. I am about to go into the movie theatre with a whole bunch of my future seventh grade classmates who I don't even know. I would be the odd ball out.

I finally build the courage to open the car door to be welcomed by the loudest screech I have ever heard.

"AHHH! May, you made it! I thought you were going to leave me all alone tonight," yells Eva running towards me with a big smile running from ear to ear across her face. It feels great to reunite with an old friend again, especially since it's been more than 5 years.

I lightly chuckle, "Yeah, I thought why the hell not."

"Well no time to lose," said Eva wrapping her right arm around my left arm, skipping. "We don't want to miss the movie, now do we?"

As Eva is skipping, I continue to walk. Eva then notices I'm starting to slow her down.

"Hey May, you okay? If you are anxious about what boys you might see, you don't need to worry. Trust me, all of them are as fugly looking as can be," she giggled at her own little remark. I figured why waste this whole night with a frown on my face. I should be enjoying tonight, so I unlocked my arm with Eva and raced her to the entrance. I was the best track person my elementary ever had, Eva wouldn't stand a chance.

I got to the door faster than I thought I would, trying to catch my breathe, and when I turned around I didn't spot Eva anywhere. Then I felt a small tap on my left shoulder.

"BOO!"

"AH! God dammit Eva!" I yelled louder than I wanted to. How did she get here faster than I did?

Eva was laughing her head off while having her own little victory dance.

"How did you-" Eva cut me off.

"Pshh, please May. I have been coming here every year since the first grade, I grew my own momentum to be the fastest to run. Trust me, I was the smallest out of everyone. So I got challenged a lot. Everyone thought they could beat me because I was small. Still every year I get the same reaction from everyone when I beat them to the top. Everyone gets so caught up in their own ego that they don't see me swish by."

I stood there, mouth open.

"Speechless I see, anyway let's get in there already!" Eva grabbed my arm and pushed through the door.

There were so many faces, many I didn't know. Eva continued to greet everyone she passed, still leaving me clueless on who each person was. Finally we sat down in the middle section, the perfect place sit with such a huge screen in front of you.

"So, um can you tell me about a few people?" I need to get an idea about who these kids are so I don't get stuck into a trap I don't want to be in.

"Well over there is Mia, my best friend since third grade. Then there's Isabella, ooh girl you want to stay away from her. She's a little..."

"A little bitch?" I say finishing her sentence. Eva nods her head in agreement. She continues to list other names but I eventually stop listening because a good looking face catches my eye.

He slowly walks into the theater, talking to his friends on his left and right. Wearing a nike shirt with khaki shorts. Pulling off a 'California' cap that I bet no else could. Then he faces my way, I start to have a panic attack. I feel my heart race rise by about a thousand beats per second, but I don't take my eyes off of him. We lock eyes, my heart skips a beat. He winks at me with his soft caramel eyes, melting his way into my heart. I thought the boys here were supposed to be ugly, but no. He is far from ugly, he is dreamy.

"Then that's... May, MAY!" Yells Eva waving a hand over my face, snapping me back to reality.

"Oh, um who are we on again?" I guess I must have been staring at that angel for awhile.

"Who were you staring at?" Eva follows my eyes, I still haven't taken them off of him.

"Ooh May, you want to be careful with that player. He-" I cut her off.

"Wait a sec, he's a player? Well I shouldn't be surprised, I kind of knew the minute he walked in." Damn, I'm falling for a player.

"Oh my G! You have been eyeing him since he walked in?! AHH! May's first crush, May's first crush," Eva shouts with a teasing voice.

"Will you shut up Eva! No way to make it even more obvious."

"Oh my G, have you guys locked eyes yet?" Eva is now on the edge of her seat.

I twirl my hair, thinking back to the moment I stared into his soft caramel eyes. "Um, maybe. Ugh Eva, he's too dreamy."

"Oh girl, you already twirling your hair and everything... IT'S MEANT TO BE!" shouts Eva.

"Oh my Eva! Shut up already!" I say to her with a stern voice, but still trying to whisper.

"Okay okay I'm sorry," says Eva with a squeaky voice. She bounces her legs up and down with her hands to her mouth. "Your thinking about him still aren't you," she says.

"What? No..." Am I?

"You know you still haven't stopped twirling your hair, right."

I notice and quickly bring my hands to my sides. Great, now he must think I'm one of those typical girls that twirl their hair to flirt. Except I have messy amber hair to twirl.
