Chapter 2

(She was lost)

Tori raced into the hospital almost knocking a couple of employees down as she ran to the desk of the ER. “I’m Tori Marks, my husband was brought here!” She said, openly fearful.

“Tori.” Tori looked to her left to see Dr. Harrison standing there looking very solemn. She looked at his frown and was already shaking her head.

“No! No! No! No! No!” Tori called out as tears began to stream down her face. The blonde felt someone grab her but didn’t know who. Her world began to shatter.

“Lucas you really need to…”

“Excuse me sire.” The King and his sons looked to see Ryker in the doorway.

“What’s wrong?” Lucas asked his enforcer upon seeing concern on the dark haired man’s face.

“We’ve just received word…River’s been killed.”

“What?!” All three said clearly shocked.

“How?” Landon inquired.

“Car accident.” The dark haired man replied. “It happened a little over a week ago.”

“Tori.” Lucas said his voice full of concern. Without even a look at his father or older brother the short haired blonde man began walking towards him. “Call Darnel and have a plane readied.” He ordered.

Landon and Logan watched the two men leave and looked at each other.

“You didn’t…” They both said in unison at each other and fell silent.

“I had nothing to do with it.” Logan assured his father. “I admitted the truth to you but…no, for once in my life I can honestly say, I’m innocent.”

“As am I.” Landon replied. “Who would’ve thought that an accident would give Tori back to us?” While the king did feel sympathetic towards the Marks family for the loss of their son, he couldn’t help but feel pleased that the woman his youngest son was in love with would be returned to him.

Warner sighed as he looked up at his daughter’s window. Tori had gone into shock after learning of River’s passing and showed no signs of coming out of it. The enforcer wasn’t even sure if his daughter comprehended how he had died.

The police had released a preliminary report calling River’s death an accident. A semi hauling gasoline had lost control and hit his car from behind. Both had gone through the guardrail and down the embankment before the truck and car both exploded.

Warner wanted to check out the scene but no one was being allowed in the area even now. They’d found River’s body but not the other driver. It raised a question in Warner’s mind. Especially after it had been learned the semi had been stolen. Still, he wasn’t a cop and had no connections to the police department. He’d have to wait until they were done in the area before he could take a look.

His first concern however, was about his little girl. No matter how grown up she was now or that she’d been married and now widowed, the blonde would always be his little girl.

Hearing a vehicle he turned and was surprised to see a limo pull up that did not belong to the Marks. He watched a back door open and Lucas emerge.

“Pri…”

“How’s Tori?” Lucas said clearly not caring about formalities.

The enforcer looked into his eyes and saw only concern for his daughter. “She won’t leave her room.”
