What I Live For (Part 3)

Confused right? In my English class we were given an assignment where we are to write in a creative way to talk about what we live for. I had a lot of fun writing it (as you can see) so I figured why not share it on Wattpad with my other random rambles.

My spin on this assignment came from my love of the sims. I always loved creating a character and living vicariously through him or her. One day, I wondered what would happen if my sim realized their entire life was dictated by a single person, and every action they did depended on whether I approved it or not. I laughed at the thought, and said aloud, "They don't know though. They think they're just living for themselves."

And then I realized, what if we were the sims? Not literally, but metaphorically. (Or literally, CONSPIRACY) With this thought swarming around in my head, I started to look through the eyes of a sim. I made some connections, like how an improving student on the sims gives up their sleep in order to become a top student. Or the need to keep up appearances with certain communities or hobbies. Maybe how we as humans are meant to keep a balanced life. Bodily functions, healthy diet, adequate sleep, properly entertained, socially adept, and decent hygiene. Everything I have to keep up with the sims is what I need to maintain in my own life. Giving a sim an aspiration is embedding into them a desire of something they want to improve on, but isn't that what has happened to me? To us as a society? Wasn't I given an idea when I was younger, through environment and parental supervision, to desire improvement on something? Doesn't life teach you that you need to be good at something to be doing life right?

The sims are lucky if you ask me. They may suck at an activity when they start, but they'll always get better when they work on it no matter their talent or aspiration or anything else. Sometimes us humans can improving in something for years and never attain a status of expertise. This may suck, but honestly it's the only thing I can count to that separates us from the sims world. That, and their eerie talent of always being able to keep bedrooms clean...
