"JASON IM HOME!" I yelled as I entered through the door. 'Haha I beat that sucker! Told him my baby was faster than his little yellow bug car.' I looked over my shoulder at my "baby". My slick Midnight black Harley stood proudly in the drive way. "Almost brings a tear to my eye..." My eyes slowly found their way to Lauren and Jessica's car. "Weird... why are the twins home so early?" I thought aloud. "And why didn't they come when I called?"
As if on cue a disheveled Jess came running down the stairs. She looked surprised to see me. "S-Sasha..." She stuttered. "W-why are you here?" I was confused and concerned about Jess and why she was acting so weird.
"Uhh, I live here? Are you okay?" she looked like she was searching or the words to say but I cut her off. "And where's Lauren, it's our anniversary and I wanna take her out to dinner, at that nice sushi-" This time I was cut off by an audible giggle coming from upstairs. Jessica's eyes grew wide as she tried to cover it up with loud cough.
"Sorry, I think I'm coming down with something..." she lied, not so smoothly. Again a noise came from upstairs but this time it was from a voice I know all too well. "Shhh, don't want your little girlfriend to hear." It was quickly followed by another voice. "Nah she shouldn't be back for another hour." I looked from the hallway upstairs to Jessica. She had a hand covering her mouth but I could still hear her mumble a long chain of 'I'm sorrys' into her hand.
"Jessy... whose upstairs..." Even though I already knew the answer, I wanted her to say it, I wanted her to confirm this wasn't some dream. But she couldn't even grace me with that; She merely sat down on the stairs and put her head in her hands never stopping the chain. I slowly put my messenger bag down on the floor, not caring where it landed and made my way towards the stairs. Jess grabbed my hand before I could ascend them.
"Please, please don't go up there." She pleaded.
"Jessica," She flinched at the use of her full name, "I have to." She just nodded and let me go. I continued up the stairs. The noises got louder and louder as went down the hall way to Laurens room. I sighed mentally, prepared myself for what was to come and opened the door. My suspicions were confirmed when I found Lauren on top of my best friend. They quickly jumped off each other thank god they both still had clothes.
"Sasha! I swear this isn't what it looks like j-just let me explain and-"
"Save it.. Happy 6th and last anniversary Lauren." With that I walked out.
I ran down the stairs missing a few along the way and walked out the door to my bike ignoring the calles from my now ex best friend and ex girlfriend. I rode with tears threatening to spill out and a clouded mind.
This isn't the first time I've caught her with someone else there was that guy from math class who she was flirting with right in front of me...God I feel so...stupid and...used... how could she do this to me and on our anniversary of all days. I tried to shut off my mind but the thoughts wouldn't go away.
For fear of causing an accident I pulled over Ironically it was the bridge that I shared my happiest moments with her. I sighed and sat on the edge of the tall structure peering down below at the mellow stream that lay beneath it. "Best anniversary ever..." I mumbled to my self as I picked up a pebble and threw it into the steam, causing a ripple affect. "Damn."
I was never good a skipping stones. As if on queue a rock from behind me flew into the steam but this time skipping along 6 times. My mouth was a gape. "G-Ghost pebble..." I whimpered.
Just then a voice came from behind me. "Booooo I'm a spooky ghost wooooooo~." Jessica said with a laugh. I joined in. After the laughter died down I finally asked. "Jessy what are you doing here? Aren't you meant to be at home talking to your sister?" She thought about it for a second then replied. "Well one she's in the wrong so deep Its not funny and I'm not saving her this time."
I cut her off. "This time? So it wasn't the first time, I knew it!" I yelled angrily. Even though Jessica knew my Wrath wasn't directed at her, she still flinched. This caused me to lose almost all of my anger and shoot her an apologetic look before turning back to the river.
She cleared her throat and spoke in her soft voice again. "As I was saying... I'm not sticking by her when my other sister needs me more." When she was done my head shot up. My brown eyes met her green blue eyes dancing with amusement in an instance. "Knew that would get your attention." And it did... in the 11 years I've known her and Lived with her she has never once called me her sister. It was always 'Sweetie, Sash, Sasha, Donkey, that annoying girl who steals my food at Lunch ect. Never...Sister.
Something inside me snapped as tears welled up in my eyes. These ones however were a sort of a mix between Happy and Sad. Jessica pulled me into an embrace stroking my hair lovingly. "I hope those are good tears because I've been wanting to say that for forever and if they're bad I'm going to be crushed." She said with a serious tone but the smile in her voice failed her.
I chuckled into the crook of her neck. "Its both but mainly happy don't worry." I said still smiling.
"good," She spoke sternly and pulled away causing me to look at her questionably. "Now that's done there's one more thing we have to do." She stood up on the edge of the bridge and emptied her pockets placing them all beside her and laid her jacket on top.
"Jessica... what are you doing?" I thought out loud. She looked at me and smiled.
"When me and Lauren were little we used to come here all the time and explore and stuff." She looked blissfully into the distance reminiscing of the past.
I smiled remembering too. "Yeah Mrs Rose always got mad at you for tracking dirt mud and leaves through the kitchen you guys would always come home wet." Jessica nodded, her smile never fading
"Mhmm," she hummed in agreement. "and this is why we were always wet when we came home," I didn't say anything so she could elaborate. "when we were out here we would always make secret packs and things and we would seal them off by jumping into the Lake while holding hands," Her smile faltered slightly, almost unnoticeable but I have a knack for picking those up. "and I wanna do one with you because you're my sister and I love you and so forth."
I shook my head with a smirk. "What about our stuff?" She answered quickly.
"Put your jacket over it and no one will ever know."
"Okay...what about-" she cut me off with a pleading look.
I sighed knowing I lost this and took my phone of my pocket along with my keys an threw my jacket on top of them as instructed. As I got to my feet I was pulled into a tight yet quick hug by Jess as she whispered a thank you to me. I took her hand and got ready to jump. "Wait!" she said pulling me back by my hand. "We gotta say what we promise first." I nodded my head and let her go first. "I promise to always be there for you when you need me, I promise to always love you as much as I physically can and for as long as I can and finally I promise to always be your sister regardless of our blood because."
"Family isn't Blood." We both finished off.
"Okay my turn... I promise to always love and trust you all of the time even if you are totally wrong, I promise to make you smile at least once a day and if I can't I've failed as a sister, and... I promise to always treat you like I would my sister if I had one, with that that means you might get mad or upset with me but you always forgive me no matter what, I can't promise you that I'll be the best sister or the nicest because I will continue to steal and borrow your stuff without asking but what I can promise is... I'll always be beside you thick thin right wrong." I ended my speech with a smile as Jess wiped away a tear.
"Ugh Geez now your making me cry," after she got a hold of her self she continued. "Now we kiss our hands and say sisters forever okay?" I nodded and did as she said.
"Sisters forever." We both whispered to each other.
Then we jumped our hands still embraced each other tightly as we fell. All the troubles and worries of the past few hours were wiped away when we hit the water together.
One things for sure no matter how bad it gets I'll always have family to go to they may not have the same blood type as me and they may not look like me, but I know they will always be there for me as I will for them.
