"I still don't understand why we're doing this." Izik complained.

Jacey looked back at him, tucking her ginger hair behind her ear. She didn't know why they were doing it either, but she wasn't about to tell Izik that. "We need to save the ruby from the vampires." That was her best explanation for why they were sneaking down a dark alleyway in the middle of the night, instead of sleeping in their dorm rooms back at school. Erin's was that he thought they had all gone crazy, and Izik was there because he thought it was a horrible idea and he wanted to see them fail.

Erin sighed, looking at what was in front of them. A dead end, a pool of blood, and a ladder to the top of the building in front of them. Jacey's face broke into a grin. Izik thought she was all to happy, considering they were in front of a pool of blood.

Erin looked at the blood. "Median blood. Against the Covenant." The Covenant was an agreement between all the magical creatures, and a Median was a normal human without any magic.

"Well,"Izik said dryly. "They're stealing one of the most powerful magical stones in Britain, I can't imagine they would care they're breaking the Covenant."

"And that's why we're trying to stop them!" Jacey said, running to the iron ladder. She grabbed the third rung, a little over her head, (She was 5' 2"), and began climbing.

Izik, bored, wanted to get the quest over with, so he spelled himself and Erin to the top of the building. Drops of blood made a trail across the rooftops.

"Starlight,Star bright."Izik muttered the spell quietly. A small glowing star appeared hovering above his hand, silver, like most of his magic.

Jacey leapt across the gap between two buildings, landing clumsily on the other side.

"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it!"Erin said loudly. A translucent aqua flickered into being, spanning the gap.

Jacey rolled her eyes. "You guys are too dependent on magic." She complained.

Izik, striding across the bridge, sighed. "Some of us don't like to almost fall to our death, Eiffel."

Erin, walking behind him, nodded enthusiastically."Yeah, Jacey, Izik is, for once, right. I would prefer not to fall of the roof."

Jacey was not listening. She was staring fixedly at the trail of blood, which did not lead to the next building, but down to the fire escape of the old theater they were standing on. Erin followed her gaze. "Perfect."
