Parents are probably the most hypocritical people ever. They hold their offspring to a certain standard that they don't live by, and possibly never have. Fathers chastise and lecture the children about the importance of chores and cleanliness, yet leave their plates on the desk, their socks on the floor. They leave work documents scattered about the table that shouldn't even be brought home.
Mothers reassure their daughters countless times of their beauty and self worth, with their eyes glued to the mirror and a palette of makeup open on the vanity. If they are reminded of this, an overdramatic "I need to look good. You don't." is sure to follow. But these small offenses are just a that, and are easily forgiven. The worst of their hypocrisy is when they tell their children, with such conviction and fervor that it must be true, "anyone who is willing to hurt you does not love you ", or the scolding "family is supposed to protect not tear down each other", after a tough fight between siblings. This is by far the worst, because while they remind their children of these 'facts of life', parents deliver many of their lessons with harsh words, punches, stomps. Parents jeer and snarl, kick and choke their children. Pare hurt their children and don't apologize, only answering angry sobs - or silent tears- with a sage "I do this because I love you." The children never think otherwise, of course, though they can't help but to raise their brows slightly whenever another proverb about family and bonds is spoken from a parent with a waggling finger.
As the three siblings cling to each otherthe same way they once clung to their father, eyes dark and lips busted, scratches and bruises along their arms, they wonder which philosophy is truer: either those who love each other do wish to hurt their loves, or they are very unlovable children.

[the edit at the top is not mine]
Okay, so this is the very short prologue because I don't want to give pretty much anything away for the story. The chapters themselves are much longer, so don't worry! This story is super inspired so the I will definitely finish it and stay on my schedule of weekly updates.
Comments are what I really care about because I LIVE for feedback and they make my day!
The next update will be this Saturday which will be the set day for weekly updates going forward. Until next time <3
